R & C Roofing Contractors — Local services in Honolulu

Needed to find a roofer to resolve a granular loss of our flat garage roof to satisfy our insurance company. I Googled, read reviews and after 2 dead ends with "no follow through" other roofing companies I contacted R&C roofing. I called the office and a helpful woman took a message and said she would have someone contact me. Chris contacted me after I sent a chat online about the urgency of my need (the insurance company said they would cancel our policy if we didn't take care of the issue by a certain date).

I explained the situation to Chris and he agreed to come that afternoon to check our garage roof, for which I was grateful because he sounded like a busy man. It didn't take him long for the assessment, and a few hours later he emailed 2 proposals. One for modified bitumen (same as old roofing) and one for silicone coating. The insurance company was very vague on how they wanted the granular loss resolved, even when asked directly. So we went with the silicone coating. The silicone option cost a little less than the other. Chris also explained that they don't do any color other than white because adding color to the silicone reduces its life and it may bubble up easier than plain white.

We paid a 50 percent deposit and after some communication issues Chris finally got ahold of me to set an appointment for the next day. He also mentioned we did not have to do anything to prep the roof for their work other than moving our cars and anything else around that we don't want to get dirty when they power wash the garage.

The next morning 2 young men showed up at the agreed time and made quick work of our 2 car garage roof. After power washing and priming and letting the primer dry. They put on the silicone coating. All their work took about half a day. They did the finishing touches just after lunch time and they were done. These workers were very respectful and professional and knew what they were doing.

That afternoon it rained and the silicone did its job as expected. I took before and after photos and I must say, the white silicone looks really good. The rain water just rolls off of it. I sent photos of the roof to the insurance company and they were satisfied with the work.

My 5 star experience started back on President’s Day this past February 2025. Woke up to a weather report to expect heavy rains in the afternoon. The crazy wind and rain storm we experienced in January had literally torn off a corner of our roof and the roofing company our insurance company recommended hadn’t been returning our previous phone calls to at least emergency tarp the area in case there would be rains.

Through utter frustration and desperation I did the good old Google search for any company that would be opened on President’s Day. When I saw that R & C Roofing was located nearby in Kapahulu I called the number and got Rob.

I voiced my frustrations and concerns and he immediately told me no worries he could get men there shortly. That phone call was a little past 8am and my roof was patched by 10a by Kana’i and his team. That was my first 5 star experience with R & C Roofing. Needless to say I told my insurance agent to switch roofing companies.

Fast forward to June…Kana’i and his team of 8 ripped off the whole roof and completed 75% of the repairs even after having to lay plywood over the entire roof first. The rest of the roof was completed the next day and they had even repaired some of the eaves. My second 5 star experience.

I’d also like to mention that on Mother’s Day weekend our solar panels started leaking and I sent a text to Kana’i asking if they had a company they work with. I received a text back and the gentleman they work with had the leak fixed that afternoon.

There is nothing that this company can’t do. Their resources and talented staff are amazing. To me they’re a one-stop shop. Kana’i and his team are the most personable, sweetest, kind and respectful people. Should I need other repairs done I’m keeping these guys on speed dial. Writing for my mom Rosie, she really liked Rob because he really treated her with respect as a kapuna (elderly). Rob was never pushy and made sure she understood exactly the process from A-Z. He took time personally to come out to see her several times and made sure she felt at ease every step of the way. This company will do their best to have the home insurance pay the maximum amount so that my mom didn’t have to cough up the total cost! The roof crew were always respectful, punctual, organized and cleaned up daily, they went beyond and above and you could see the unity amongst the staff. Much mahalo, highly recommend their services if you want to be treated like family and aloha spirit.
