Scooter Rental Hawaii on Campbell Ave — Local services in Honolulu

I rented two scooters while on vacation with my girlfriend to ride around the Waikiki. There were small inconveniences I could talk about such as not having the phone mounts ready when they told me the scooters were dropped off or the number of the scooter written on my scooter with sharpie and not a sticker on the front like the others which made me not able to locate it but the main reason for the review is to warn other that these scooters from this company are not maintained or safe. When I started my scooter I sat down on it after starting it and it started rolling forward on its own. luckily I realized and pulled the brake before I ran into a parked car. I took a video and sent it to ScooterRentalHawaii and told them I did not feel safe on their mopeds and just wanted a refund. They refunded me only $68 out of the $250 total I paid as they said I was within their cancelation period. Seems like a scam to me. They put out scooters that don’t work and then don’t refund you your money. We did not ride the scooters at all and contacted them the same day as the problem before their posted closed hours and they did not respond til the next morning. If i could leave negative 5 stars i would. We rented two mopeds for Saturday July 6th and Sunday July 7th. When we arrived at the mopeds, we got on and were about to start riding when my boyfriend noticed his began accelerating on its own and luckily pressed the breaks. When we realized this issue was continuing and even getting worse (going faster on its own with no hand on the accelerator) we decided we no longer felt safe riding either of the mopeds and documented this issue for proof. We tried notifying them immediately (as well as roadside assistance) and they said they were closed (said they were open on google) and they offered new mopeds and we declined and asked for a refund as we never even rode them and did not feel safe. We were refunded $68 when we paid over $200. We could have been seriously injured had we not realized before taking off on the road. This is extremely unsafe and irresponsible of this company. We were being civil and respectful in hopes of just getting a refund but since we had to argue with someone on the phone because “no manager was available to review the case” after 3 days we have decided to just post a review in hopes no one else gets hurt. Ton’s of minor inconveniences from the moment we arrived. First there is no one permanently working these scooter rentals, you communicate with someone remote via text and call. After issues with payment, lock boxes, and overall maintenance of the scooters we tried to cancel and get a refund since we had not yet left the property and the scooters were unused, to which they said “wasn’t possible”. So we tried to at least tried to use the scooters, only for one of the locks to be jammed in the wheel. We eventually got a replacement scooter, but the company tech , Oliver, then arrived and berated me and said we broke the first scooter and jammed the lock ourselves, as he tried to charge us for the price of the whole scooter (thank god we had the insurance).
