CORRECTION update: The steaks the average person would purchase were actually just under an inch thick, not an half of an inch but glued with meat glue ( a blood coagulent from pork or beef). This makes cheqp cuts form into expensive looking steak. Still not a great steak. A friend purchased some. I will leave a review once we've sampled.
I am from a little town called Sagianw Michigan, where In the Midwest Gordon reigned supreme for small businesses. Their competitive prices on large items was incredibly helpful when I catered small funtions. Sometimes, you didn't need 6 gallons of salad dressing. I went to the store on Westheimer. It is a beautiful sprauling space with friendly staff and lots of fresh and processed food options along with the usual fare a small business or large family could use.
Some items were still competiveley priced, like their house brand Trade East spices. There has not been much increase from the prices I paid in Michigan almost 10 years ago on Trade East spices. However, they have chosen to carry the Badia line but marked it way over the prices you will find at grocery stores like Foodtown or Fiesta. They also had a small section of McCormick spices, which was also higher than competitors. I went looking for container options for food transport. I wanted a large stack of clam compartment styrofoam containers and black plastic containers with the transparent lids. The styrofoam clam containers came no larger than 50. If i doubled it, I still was over what I paid for the 100 pack I found on Amazon. I found better prices at HEB and Hmart on the black containers, which were also, small put ups for Gordons to say they are cor the food service business. It's as if Gordon's did not come with serious intent to meet the demands of small businesses. They spoke in news articles about researching the market before coming to Texas. I want to ask, who did their research? Outside of items you can't get elswhere, there is not much motivation to return to shop as I did in Michigan. I understand Texas and Michigan offer two different economies. Yet, I can do better with local competitors, online and farmers markets all over the city regarding their produce.
The meat section was impressive if you have a serious business. However, they had 7 and 8.00 tbone and New York strip steaks that appeared subprime. The had fat marble was weird and heavily pricessed looking. It was apparent these are completely made with the process of meat glue. .the steaks were just a half inch thick, which any caterer knows those are difficult to cook past medium rare. My friend cooked her and allowed me to task. YUCK. They are meat glue processed with a heavy dose of tenderizor, which makes them mushy when you are not chewing on muscle or tendon. Along with the steaks were some well trimmed but skimpy on the meat pork ribs from a name brand meat packer ranging from 9 to 11 dollars a slab. I believe these may have been promotional purchases to lure in individuals who do not need the restaurant style portions found in the back of the store. I was so disappointed, I took few pictures. I advise you to go for yourself. The store is relatively empty. You can make your own decisions. I personally was quite disappointed from what I thought it was...

I was shocked to my feet .I bought 235bags of rice and they said they couldnât deliver and if they have to deliver I would pay 6% and I never got a cent off as discount. I came in and spent $6,000 and more at a go and I never even got a cent as discount and I also have to go rent uhaul, pay the loaders and off loaders and they me to come back. Heck no. Please if you want to buy stuff in quantity....
Read moreWas very excited to check out this new store and it did not disappoint. Staff was very welcoming. There is wholesale merchandise for restaurants or if you're looking to serve a large crowd. You're also able to buy in smaller quantities for your weekly groceries. The store was very organized and appealing. Tried their caramel popcorn and it was delicious! Their freshly squeezed orange juice was also delightful. Will definitely be going again! Oh, and no membership required to buy wholesale, which...
