This review is long overdue and pretty long. I’ve taken 10+ classes here so here are my thoughts:
I have been taking pilates classes (heated and not heated) around town for a few months and the draw for me to go to HH is that this is way closer to my house than some of the others. This is one of the main reasons I’m going to keep coming back - I do enjoy the classes, but convenience is also a big factor. I don’t love having to brave the galleria traffic to go to R1 or the Shepherd traffic to get down to LHTX.
It seems like a lot of people who go here may be newer to pilates, which is absolutely not a bad thing, just an observation. This brings me to my second point - if you’ve done any sort of strength training (at a gym, barrys, OTF) or taken the heated pilates classes somewhere like Ritual One or LHTX, you will most likely not find the hot pilates or hot sculpt classes super challenging. The classes are still a good heated workout, but I feel much more “accomplished” and challenged in the hot lifted classes. If you’re used to the classes/styles I mentioned above, you would probably enjoy the hot lifted the most. Emma’s class is great. I also don’t believe the room is as hot as what you find at other heated studios - at least it doesn’t feel that way to me.
In terms of instructors, Elisah was by far the most challenging IMO (so my favorite) but I’ve heard she’s no longer teaching. I recently took Emma’s hot lifted and it was similar to what I loved about Elisah’s. You can tell she not only knows what she’s doing from a pilates stand point, but she’s very knowledgeable about muscle movements - not just telling you what form you should have but WHY the form needs to be a certain way. I always think a strength training background makes for the best instructors no matter what style class you’re taking. Truly understanding how our muscles work together during any workout and what purpose the muscles serve our bodies is more important than just being able to memorize what “good form” is for each movement.
Obviously the studio is still new so they’re working out some kinks with logistics/scheduling and training new instructors. I’m looking forward to them becoming more of a well-oiled machine and for their instructors to get more experience and teach more “advanced” classes. Once that happens, I don’t see why I would’t give them 5 stars instead of 4.
Overall, this studio is a great addition to the heights and I will keep taking a few classes here a week, along with some more challenging heated classes at places like R1/LHTX.
Hope this helps anyone thinking about...
Read moreFinding a place where mat Pilates is practiced with integrity can be a challenge. Having said that, going to Happy Hour Pilates, I have found that each instructor truly believes and teaches with meticulous attention to form and commitment to the Pilates principles. I'll admit I'm picky when it comes to my instructors. I want a good experience where the instructor is knowledgeable about how to challenge me and keep my body safe.
As far as community is concerned, the staff are extremely welcoming and members are genuinely kind. I've been to studios where nobody talks to you and you don't know where things are. This is not the case at HHP. There are all body skill levels and everyone is approachable. One small thing they do that I love is that they use natural cleaners so the studio doesn't smell overwhelmingly of chemicals. I noticed that members pass the organic cleaning towels to one another at the end of class rather than just getting one for themselves. It's a small thing, but speaks to the vibe.
One more thing, the cold plunge and the availability of cold lavender towels after class are chef's kiss. The towels are free and the cold plunges are reasonably priced (one might say cheap). This is the perfect post class combo.
It feels like a lot of love, intention, and knowledge based on experience went into making HHP. I'm so thankful that they made this space for us,...
Read moreI've been going here for close to 50+ classes now. Not only is the space so beautiful, but I've also found an amazing supportive community in it. The improvements I've made since the beginning of my fitness journey has been tremendous - the classes are addicting (for a good reason). 25+ lbs down since my very first class at Happy Hour and I've never felt more stronger and leaner.
I first started going here for cadillac pilates (they are the only studio that offers group cadillac pilates in the south as far as I know) and also discovered my love of heated workouts & cold plunges through Happy Hour. I also love how everyone is welcome here regardless of size or gender - I've brought my friends here and they all loved Happy Hour as well. Only cons I have is that parking can get crowded & chaotic during peak hours since it is a smaller place. I highly recommend you arrive earlier to have time to set up, and bring your own mat/towel (rental is $11 fyi).
I'm so glad I found a studio near me that I love and can call my 'second home'. I go here so often, my friends assume when I talk about 'going to happy hour' it's this studio and not actual happy hour lol.
Hands down my favorite studio, can't...
