This was my first and LAST visit here at this location. I purchased some items at this location on Thursday 4/15/21.  I paid for my items and received some change back. The change consisted of a lot of $1 bills. The cashier said that is all she had. I accepted the money. And the transaction ended. I stuffed the money in my pocket because all those $1 bills couldnât fit in my wallet.  I went to my car, loaded my items, returned the shopping cart and got into my car. I took the change, that I received from the Garden center cashier, to put in my larger wallet. But I noticed that some of the $1 bills look and felt different. I took a closer look and them and I noticed that the color, print, font and size were different. The serial numbers were consecutive and they were All printed in 2017. But they appeared to be brand new. I found all of that very odd. I felt very uneasy about those $1 bills. So I took my receipt and ALL of the change that I received from the Houston Garden Center cashier back inside of the store. I was greeted by a different cashier. I ask her to call the manager. And she did. A manager named Alex showed up. I calmly explained everything to him.  He immediately became very hostile. And he said that he could accept that money back because he didnât know where that money came from. I told him that I was going to call the police and they could handle the situation. He replied with a lot of profanity and yelling. I asked him what was the reason for all the animosity. Then he told me that he would take the $1 bills back. He grab the $1 bills from my hands rough. He brought more of the same $1 bills from his office and tried to hand them to me. And He said that he just had gotten them from the bank and they were not fake. I told him that I didnât want any more of those $1 bills. Then  condescending said âwhat do you want to give you $100 bill. I told him noâŠI wanted other bills like fives or $10. He said that he didnât have any of those. Then he said that he was going to give me a roll of quarters. I told him that was fine. I took the roll of quarters and left the store. I went to my car and immediately called the Houston Garden Center to report  everything.  I  reported the manager ALEX to Bobby. But mid report she asked be to hold on. She put me on hold for about 3 minutes. Then she returned to say that she had just spoken to Alex the manager while I was on hold. And he told her that he exchanged the money for me.  Bobby took Alexâs word. And basically dismissed everything and tried to rush me off the phone. But before I hung up the phoneâŠI got her name, the name office manager Cindyâs and owner Matt Hooper. And I told her that I wanted her to file a formal complaint on Alex the store manager @ 1700 West Loop North Houston, Tx 77008 store #12. She assured me that she would. And I told her that I...
Read moreUpdate: beware plants are not guaranteed. So if you spend good money on large plants, shrubs, trees and they die I was told you are just out of luck. I bought two roses, planted the same location if Rose miracle grow soil. One doing well, one died quite quickly (only had about two weeks). It started looking bad immediately, and within two weeks it was gone. The roots were weak looking in the dirt as if it was just planted.
The prices are not much better than Home Depot or Loweâs for the risk of being out of luck if uou get a bad plant and it dies. Best bet for bargains is to go to Loweâs in the back of the outdoor garden area they have clearance flowers. Although they look a little rough you can plant abs give a little love and care and they come back. I have such great success with these plants. I have them all over my yard. I call them my ârescue babiesâ!!
Just know at HGC you have a risk of being out of the money spent!!!!
The review below was about a year ago. Just another bad experience with them. Unsure why I went back.
PRICE IS NOT WHAT IT IS POSTED. I typically love HGC. However, this location is really poorly managed. Often the shelves are bar or a bunch of old over grown plants. I was excited today to see they had a fresh order of mums. The sign on both ends of the table said $1.99 for qt. Another sign different table said 1.99 for qt. All Colors. So while there I grabbed 8 mums, and 8 other 1 qt. Annuals. When I checked out my bill was much higher then expected only 3 of the 16 were $1.99, mums 2.99 and 2 other plants were 3.99. All annuals! When I asked about it I was told the sign was in wrong place. Most of the tables, including where I got mine had a $1.99 for qt. Some did have certain plan names, that I did not notice I give them that. I asked to speak with manager and was told she will tell you the same thing. I again asked to speak with manager. Helper went to office came back out found another worker who was off loading flowers and could not speak English and told she was the manager. He translated to me that she said basically the price is what we ring it up as you can not go off posted prices! I think I will find another place to buy my plants, if that is the case. Over all it was. Different of $12 really nothing, but it was the principle. Itâs even happened before, price did not ring up as what I was posted and I was always I. A hurry and just went with it. I am just sick and tired of the poor customer service and the mentality that THE CUSTOMER DOES NOT MATTER! Wait until Amazon can deliver fresh flowers and these type of business go away and they will wish for the day they had loyal...
Read moreMy husband was there today 11/30/2022 between 1:10 p.m.-1:40p.m. to buy a tree for a customer which happens to be a senior citizen community home (so he wanted a nice tree for them), when the employee was going to trim the tree the employee noticed the tree was cracked and advised my husband to pick another tree as the cracked tree would not last long. The manager saw him go to look for another tree and did not say anything. He was bringing the tree through the cashier and was then told by the cashier (Kathy) that he could not exchange the tree, the man who identified himself as a manager (Harrison) stepped in and told him he could not exchange the tree after the cahier was making a fuse about him exchanging the tree. My husband called me to tell me what was going on and the manager was trying to talk over him and arguing with him while my husband was talking to me. I called corporate and spoke to a Jennifer who had to call the store for them to exchange the tree. I asked my husband to get their names so that I could file a formal complaint and they refused to to provide him with any names acting very unprofessional and yelling while I was on the phone. It took another employee to give him their names as they refused to provide names. The only employee who was professional in assisting to get a tree was a guy by the name of Robinson. This behavior is unprofessional and unnecessary and when my husband told him he should be trained on how to deal with customers and be professional the manager told him they don't train on that. Not a good way for Houston Garden Center to do business with a...
