I want to preface this by saying my review is not of the staff, as they were fantastic. It is a criticism of Regal and the renovations they are doing on this theater.
Like many people, I grew up going to this theater. I have fond memories of "going to work with dad" only for us to play hooky and hang out at the movies all day. We kept it a secret from my mom, since it was our sneaky thing we did every now and then. In hindsight, I'm sure my dad told her about it, but it was a fun game we would play. I remember walking around the theater, enamoured by the giant posters in the lobby, the balconies on the second floor, the beautiful murals all around of legendary actors of the gilded age, and such. I grew up watching classic movies with my dad at home, and it was fun to spot old actors who have been long forgotten by the masses on these murals.
The theater was unchanged for years. It was old, but it was never dated. It had character, class, and a history unlike other theaters. There was always a closer theater, one with more gimmicks, and others with bigger screens, but they were all generic theaters whoa only offerings were movies and popcorn, not that there's anything wrong with it.
It's been a while since I came in to Edward's (Now Regal). Last time I was in, it was how I remembered but they had just started the renovations. This time, they were largely done with the aesthetics aspect. Gone are the enormous posters of Galaxy Quest, Man on the Moon, and others that decorated the lobby. Gone are all the murals but one in the lobby, gone are the physical posters on the walls, and gone were my warm impressions of a nostalgic theater formerly untouched by modern design languages.
Instead, I was greeted with dark blue walls, blue and red neon strips, digital posters, and cold vinyl seats that are barely comfortable enough to sit through a movie. The hall of theaters on the right was now split between normal theaters and a VIP section with a bar and separate ticket checker.
If you have been into any other big box theater, you have been into the newly designed Edward's. It is now your standard, generic, modernized theater with all of the luxuries that have become standard for new theaters. That character that myself and others fell in love with us now gone, replaced with corporate standardized design, eliminating one of the last classic theaters in Houston. What was once a bed and breakfast has been replaced by a Marriot.
If that's what you like, then you'll love the new direction the theater is going. I myself am disappointed and no longer have the desire to go to this theater over more convenient ones. I'm glad I still have the memories that I built with my dad, those can never...
Read moreRegal's 4DX and IMAX theaters offer vastly different cinematic experiences, each with its own unique charm and appeal.
4DX, with its immersive technology, takes movie viewing to another level by engaging multiple senses. From moving seats to environmental effects like wind, rain, and scents, 4DX transforms the traditional movie experience into a thrilling adventure. The synchronized motion with on-screen action adds a new dimension of excitement, making viewers feel like active participants in the film. While some may find the sensory stimulation overwhelming, others will appreciate the enhanced engagement and adrenaline rush.
On the other hand, IMAX boasts larger screens, sharper image quality, and immersive sound systems, providing a more visually captivating experience. IMAX theaters are designed to maximize the cinematic impact, especially for action-packed blockbusters and visually stunning films. The sheer scale of IMAX screens envelops viewers in the spectacle, transporting them into the heart of the movie's world. While lacking the physical effects of 4DX, IMAX compensates with sheer visual grandeur, making it a preferred choice for those seeking unparalleled cinematic immersion.
Choosing between 4DX and IMAX ultimately depends on personal preferences. For audiences craving sensory thrills and interactive experiences, 4DX offers an unparalleled adventure. Conversely, those prioritizing visual clarity, expansive screens, and superior audio quality will gravitate towards IMAX. Both formats elevate the moviegoing experience, catering to different tastes and enhancing the magic of cinema in their own distinctive ways. Whether it's the adrenaline rush of 4DX or the awe-inspiring visuals of IMAX, movie buffs are spoiled for choice at Regal's.
Great Value and Tasty Eats at Regal Theater
I recently visited Regal and tried out their food menu, taking advantage of a BOGO offer on chicken pizza. I opted for the Buffalo Chicken Pizza and was pleasantly surprised by its flavorâdefinitely a solid choice for a theater setting. The cheese sticks were also a highlight, offering good value with the quantity served.
For the kids, the chicken tenders and fries were a big hit. They enjoyed every bite, making it a win for family dining. Additionally, the refillable drink cup and popcorn bucket are fantastic if youâre a regular at Regal, especially if you attend at least once a month.
Overall, it was a satisfying experience, and the food offerings are a great addition to the movie-going experience. Highly recommend trying the pizza and taking advantage of their drink and...
Read moreThis summer has been the summer of memorabilia. My family of 6 are avid movie go-ers & have collected popcorn buckets & cups from The Ghostbusters, Minions, IF, Deadpool & Wolverine, and King Kong movies. We have seen the movies too, but on days off my family has made it a fun outing to go to the local theaters to get popcorn & icees, even if there are no new movies out that we haven't seen.
We have gone to Cinemark, AMC, AND REGAL theaters, INCLUDING the one we went to today (Regal Edward's Marq-E on Silber & I-10) and have NEVER had a problem going straight to the concession, purchasing memorabilia buckets with popcorn, icees for our 4 daughters, and drinks for myself & my husband (spending near, if not over $100 for concessions/memorabilia ALONE) and walking right back out to enjoy our purchase outside.
Today was like any other day & we decided to go and see if the Alien popcorn buckets were out. We walked in AS A FAMILY. My husband hand in hand with our 8 yr old twins and me with our 6 year old twins. We walked directly to the ticket attendants, an old white man and a young kid. We told them, like every other time we do this, "We're only going to get popcorn for the kids & check out the buckets and we'll be right out." The old white man proceeded to yell at us IN PUBLIC that we couldn't do that. Only 1 person could go to concessions. We said we wanted to go as a family so that our girls could pick out their icee flavors, to which he repeated- NO, ONLY 1 of yall can go back. I was absolutely offended. It was obvious that he's sitting here calling our family thieves, making the ASSUMPTION that we were sneaking in.
We raise our daughters to never lie, cheat or steal. I take it as a cut to our character to call my husband, children, and myself out like that, ESPECIALLY after we spend so much for each visit at your theater.
I hate to call it bigotry or racism, but seeing a Hispanic family of 6 and ASSUMING that we can't afford to see a movie and have to SNEAK IN??? That is EXACTLY what happened today. Little does he know that our family goes to the 4DX frequently AND we purchase OVER PRICED concessions, paying over $200 EACH time we do the whole shebang. I was embarrassed, appalled, and honestly EXTREMELY angry that this happened, 100% even more so with my children in tow.
I truly hope no family EVER has to feel what I felt today. DO BETTER, REGAL!!! This...
