Spa by JW Houston Downtown — Local services in Houston

This spa is far from the expectations you have of something at a JW hotel. No locker room, amenities, rest room, etc. There are showers in the massage rooms but you’re not allowed to shower before the massage (I had just come from working out) and they recommended not showering after (I assume to get you out of the room). My massage was scheduled for 10 am. I get there at 9:40 am and no one could be found. Someone finally walked out at 9:59 to check me in and said they said the therapist would be out shortly to get me. I asked if I could shower before service and asked where the locker room was and only got a yes (although that was not the case). There is also a required 20% service charge added that you get no choice in. If you want a bare minimum service, that’s what you get here. If you’re looking for an actual high end spa day that is typically at “5 star hotels” (as this is advertised to be), you’ll be sorely...

Booked online and paid the $50 deposit for my wife’s birthday. When it came time to render service, they had her booked with a male (because apparently I failed to choose a preference when making the appointment) which made her uncomfortable. They offered to change the appointment to later in the day. The later appointment interfered with birthday plans. When I tried to cancel completely the hostess became agitated extremely unpleasant when I asked about my $50 being refunded. Talked with the manager and she also refused to refund my deposit money. This is not at all expected from a JW Marriott. One would think they would hire decent people when their job is talking to customers. I wouldn’t recommend this...

I bought a groupon for the couples 50 min massage, 10 minute foot soak, champagne (we drank diet pepsi) and valet parking. A very relaxing and tranquil experience. Arrive early (15 minutes I'd suggest) to fill out the paperwork and begin relaxing. We should've asked for more pressure from our masseuse. A very tranquil experience. Friendly service. Good communication throughout the massage. Friendly service all the way around (from the valet, front desk spa pason, masseuse & different front desk person who checked us out). They even brought us diet Pepsi b/c we don't drink alcohol.

Be ready to tip $30 per masseuse.
