Alright, folks, let's dive into the heart of downtown Houston where La Taquiza is serving up some serious Mexican brunch vibes. This place? It's not just a restaurant; it's an experience wrapped up in a cool, modern vibe that's got a shared space thing going on with other eateries. But let me tell ya, La Taquiza holds its own with flair.
First things first, if you're eyeing that Sunday brunch buffet, do yourself a favor and book ahead. My crew and I learned that the hard way and ended up a tad too far from the mariachi band. And yeah, missing out on the full blast of those tunes was a bummer. The vibes? Still good, but next time, I'm snagging a front-row seat.
Now, let's talk cash. The entry fee's a bit steep, but when you see the spread, it kinda makes sense. Just a heads up though – drinks aren't part of the deal. Not even water, folks. Had to shell out extra for a bottle, which felt a bit off in the grand scheme of a buffet.
But hey, the food! It's pretty as a picture and tastes as good as it looks. You can tell there's a lot of love and skill going into every dish. And the owner? Super friendly and genuinely happy to see folks enjoying the food. It's those little touches that make a place stand out.
Here's the twist in the tale – parking. Thought we hit jackpot with the open garage door, but leaving was like a scene from a sitcom, minus the laugh track. A bit of a mix-up with the exit and a parking attendant who wasn't feeling the Sunday spirit. Thankfully, a cool manager came through and saved the day. Adventure? Definitely. Hassle? Absolutely.
So, here's my take: La Taquiza's got the brunch game on lock. The ambiance, the spread, the whole deal – it's a solid 3.5 out of 5 in my book. Would I go back? Maybe. It's a spot with a lot of potential, just need to iron out those few quirks. But if you're in Houston looking for a taste of Mexico with a side of adventure, La Taquiza's worth the trip. Just remember to book ahead and maybe, just maybe, double-check that...
Read moreThis is ridiculous, I called "La Taquiza Steet Tacos" to see if they were open due to the hurricane, luckily the were open and we we found a room near the Galleria and this Taco place. I did my order through DoorDash and then once i placed the order it sent me a confirmation but right after it sent ((Hi Deya your order from La Taquiza Street Tacos (Capitol St) has been cancelled because the store is unable to fulfill the order. Your charges will be removed from your statement within 3 days. We apologize for the inconvenience.)) This was so frustrating! So then I went ahead and did my order for pick up and guess what?! The same thing happened got the same message. So I decided to call the restaurant to place my order, don't forget I already had paid twice and over $190 for food that apparently they couldn't fulfill. Then the young lady that I spoke with said she couldn't take over the phone orders. She simply said she didn't know and that it was probably because they only had 30min to close the place. This is unaccepted for any food place. You can't place an order because your closing in 30min. What the freak! So disappointing and the training to employees uff. I guess no food from here.
Responding to onwer: I have confirmation of order but they say they didn't receive hummm 🤔 I did my order twice once with door dash and the other directly to the restaurant. Your telling me the young lady was patient when i called the 1st time to ask if they were open and the second time to see why my order wasn't going through, apparently that's the rush hour 30 min after closing. I still don't think that justifies any of this.

Read moreAs everyone else, I learned about this place through social media. I got there around 12 and was finally at the register at 1 today. The line was about an hour wait and decided to stay and give it a try. Once we were finally at the register the cashier had such a bad attitude, looked annoyed with everyone, and looked like he would rather be somewhere else. My son is 4 years old and isn’t a big fan of Mexican food and was told by the cashier “He can’t sit with you unless you pay the full price for him” Again, the line was long and I decided not to argue about it so I just paid for it. I ended up paying $160 for 4 adult buffets(I told the cashier my niece was 10 years old and was still charged for adult price and she barely touched her food because of the limited options due to high volume of people) 1 kid buffet (son didn’t eat at all) and 5 drinks. The food was good and was an out of the ordinary experience but they are overpriced and understaffed. For that price I could have went to the meat market and bought some fajitas and chicken for my family and not have to deal with people’s bad attitudes and extremely long wait times. Another thing that really bothered me was when I went to get a second plate and there wasn’t anymore clean plates and they brought more out and lo and behold who’s in charge of the plates now? The cashier. “Stop getting new plates and reuse your old one” with an even uglier attitude than before. At that point I was done with the place. It would be a great place if they had better customer service because the few items we were able to eat were good but they kept running out of stuff. This place has lots of potential but at this point I’ll stay away for now. We all left hungry and ended up going to...
