If I could I would rate this place zero stars. I am someone who is constantly buying books at market value and am fortunate enough to do so. But I think that this place has “lost the plot” so to speak. The concept of this store is to make reading more accessible for EVERYONE, but in reality most of the books are nowhere near half price let alone in a good enough condition to warrant almost full market value. Today I decided to sell back books. This is the first time I have ever “sold” books as I typically just give them away. I came in with upwards of 100 books. Some of them being ARCS, first editions and signed books. When I tell you it took them close to three hours to not even offer $50. At this point I was frustrated because they told me it would take them 30ish minutes, and then I was honestly a little disgusted by how they seemingly have a system in place to take advantage. I am fortunate enough to not need the money, but for me it was more the principle of them lowballing so much to then turn around and resell for so much. I contemplated just declining their offer and am very aware I could’ve, but at this point I just wanted it over. I will never be returning and suggest this location especially reevaluate how they conduct business. Because at the end of the day yes they need to make a profit, but I think they also need to be mindful that most people who are coming into the store are looking for an experience as advertised and not whatever is actually occurring at...
Read moreThis Half Price Books location is clean, well laid out, well organized, and well stocked. The staff is incredibly helpful and very knowledgeable about their own store's specific stock, and books in general including the different genres, authors, and a wide range of related titles. The employees are also friendly, but will gladly leave you be. The atmosphere invites shoppers to spend as much time as they want in the store without being disturbed (I like plopping down in the aisles to read which I know personally). Lines move quickly, regardless of whether patrons are checking out or making a return. They are also very efficient and thorough when appraising books, movies, and music brought in by customers to sell. The store credit or cash value quote they give for selling is always fair. This store has a very generous childrens area which my kids both love spending time in. This Half Price Books has been "our" family store for several years We have had nothing but positive experiences and great memories made...
Read moreMy husband took well over 100+ DVD movies and 50+ books. Since it was his first time going to this place he asked can they check and see how much worth would they think it would be for all of them together.. They said wait for an hour and they come back. They checked over all of them. Then handed him just under $30. His jaw drop. He said I just brought them in to be checked so I can get an estimate what they're worth. So he asked for the manager. He said oh well, do you have a list? We didnt have a list of them nor the books. The lady said they're already put away. We brought them in to find out how much they are worth, if they are not worth more than they gave for them, we would sold them another place or online for more than that. BEWARE, APPARENTLY, The movies aren't worth what you think or books. Find another way to sell. Who's to say better off GIVING them away is a better reward ,than this place. MAKE A LIST IF you want your estimate BEFORE choosing (they won't give you...
