Scandinavia Place — Local services in Independence

This store is a treasured jewel on the Independence Square. There are many unique little gift items that you won't find elsewhere. Especially if you are looking for Norwegian or Scandinavian items. A visit to this store is at least an annual stop for Christmas shopping. My favorite items are the Norway calendar, the little hand-made votive candles, and the many unique baking items. They even have a small fridge with Nordic cheese and specialty items that are hard to find, and seasonal Lefse. You need to go early for the Lefse because they sell out fast before the holidays. I love shopping here, and have for years. Nina (the owner) is the best, and she goes out of her way for her customers. The store offers unique jewelry, imported ceramics, kitchen linens, clothing, cards, and Scandinavian ornaments and house decor, but my favorite are the candy and other treats.

She's had all sorts of things for sale over the years, so don't be afraid to ask for something she doesn't have. She supports local businesses and artists, and goes back to Iceland frequently - she can keep up with the products available there. You won't be disappointed if...

Relaxed shopping experience. Fun selection. I will often text my friends in Scandinavia of the items I get from there and they will suggest how to serve certain types of foods I get. Fun staff. Most can speak at least one of the languages of a Scandinavian Country.
