Where do I begin... I first went into Nancy's with high hopes because two of my best friends had wonderful experiences there.
My consultant, Sarah, was WONDERFUL. Such a doll. I picked out a dress and put a 200$ deposit down. I later decided this dress wasn't for me, so I went back with hopes they had the Enzoani Jodie. They did. I was over-the-moon and ordered this dress. She told me my measurements almost exactly matched the size two dress and we should order that one. I explained that I am petite, but muscular with broad shoulders. She proceeded to tell me I would be fine, and trusting the professional's judgment I went along with it.
A couple months later, my dress came in. And to no surprise it was too small around my back area. They said no big deal they could let it out. I asked to please add hook & eyes in because I knew the loops would stretch from reading forums on the dress.
Next apt I come in and the dress is still too small, no hooks & eyes, and the hemming/bustle still was not done. I was upset and at a loss. She said no big deal, we can cut the lace and add an inch on each side.
Next apt. I came in and the dress finally fit but now it was sticking out where the top buttons met in the back. Now comes the bust area. It was too big, so we were trying to get it to fit with my bra and it kept bunching up below my chest area. Before alterations, it was smooth and perfect. After, it was bunching. She said I should take my bra off and see how that works. Well, I did not want to go braless so then she offered to sew in a bustier. I asked how much more this would cost and she explained 60$. Upset, I said "I'm sorry but I am done paying for this Sh*&^". I wasn't trying to be rude, just extremely upset. She then proceeded to say, "Well we are done doing alterations for free". I had to shut my mouth because at this point we had paid 2300 for the dress and 400 for alterations. I was upset and crying and not ONCE did Nancy comfort me and say everything was going to be okay and that they would fix it. So, going back to the back sticking out, they then had to cut the back of my dress. I was upset because I paid for the whole dress, not bits and pieces. But it was the only way so I said okay.
When I went to go try it on again I was so over this process I just wanted to take it and run. Oh, they finally put in hooks and eyes after the THIRD appointment.
My wedding day, my dress was falling down, I could hardly keep it up, I believe this was due to them cutting the back because I could hardly sit in the dress in my fittings.
Me being an average size petite girl, I couldn't believe I was losing weight to try and fit into a dress that they should have ordered a bigger size in the beginning.
Nancy was so dismissive and rude throughout this whole process, which I had read in previous comments, but since my friends had a great experience, I gave her the benefit of the doubt. But now I understand when people say they can't believe she is still in business. Being a bridal store, you would think she would be a little more assuring and happy..nope. I will NEVER recommend this shop to anyone. I have to say, they ruined my dress experience, and also my dress didn't fit right on my wedding day. In pictures, you can see how the back of the dress was so poorly cut and altered.
Other brides may have a great experience, but if you start to have ANY problems with alterations and fittings, good luck because you will be treated poorly. With MOB dress, bridesmaid dresses, my veil, belt, etc. we probably spent over 4k in that store but were treated poorly throughout the process.
I wish good luck to...
Read moreNancy's did a wonderful job with my wedding dress and created a great experience in that regard. I would NOT recommend them for bridesmaid dresses.
And here is why:
I set an appointment and was told I could order certain dresses from certain designers. I prepared a detailed spreadsheets of styles and colors and sent them to my consultant. They didn't have ANY of the styles for the girls to try on, nor did they offer to order them. All other surrounding bridal stores had these styles. She also never kept the list of styles on hand.
I could have lived with that, but things escalated from there. My dresses arrived 6 weeks before my wedding, ordered 5 months before they arrived. With people all over the country who have very busy lives, this was pretty problematic. What made it worse was when I would follow up, the consultant CONTINUOUSLY blamed me and MY BRIDESMAIDS! Apparently the order was going in as one, but I was not followed up with a single time. All other bridal stores prepare show rooms and follow up with the bride regularly. To make it worse, my MOH set an appointment and mentioned she wanted to feel comfortable in her dress / trying on sizes for her build. The consultant was so exasperated when I explained my frustration with the dresses being late, she claimed she "bent over backwards" by having a "special" appointment with my MOH. THIS IS HER JOB. And that lead my MOH to believe that her appointment was called "special" due to her size.
On top of that, she claimed six weeks was plenty of time for alterations, assuming our schedules could work in that time frame. I travel for work almost every week until my wedding. My sister is an MD and needs more time than six weeks to get alterations. My friends are all getting married and we have PLENTY of obligations through the summer. I did not appreciate her acting like my concern was invalid or assuming my schedule. I eventually followed up with the designer to confirm that the order was placed over a month late, something she never owned up to one time and still doesn't know that I know. On top of that, not a single one of my bridesmaids or the lady of honor was called when their outfits arrived.
The finger was pointed at me and my bridesmaids the entire time. The consultant name dropped multiple of my bridesmaids when I was giving her feedback in a kind and constructive manner. Moreover, it ended up being her fault all along. She never apologized or took responsibility one time. I am an extremely patient person and this is the first negative review I've ever written, and hopefully the last. But I truly want to keep other brides from dealing with the disorganized and poor service from this store.
Do yourself a favor and explore other bridal stores in Indy. I had a flock of engaged or almost engaged women in my bridal party. Nancy's lack of customer service (which they never tried to recover from) lost them thousands in business.
This was extremely stressful, and I regret my decision to trust them with this process entirely. The two stars are because of their great selection of affordable wedding dresses. But realistically, I would have bought my same dress from another store in order to avoid this very...
Read moreWhen I bought my dress I had a wonderful experience. The store has a great selection of styles & price ranges. The consultant was patient with me and was the one who even found 'the dress' based on the feedback I had from trying on a variety of styles. Dress Selection = 5 of 5 stars
After that day I've had less than mediocre service. I identified a bridesmaid dress in their store I liked. Per their instruction I made an appointment asking for them to pull that dress & all dresses we could get in that fabric in advance of the meeting. When I arrived with bridesmaids there was only 1 dress. They said that was the only dress they had in that fabric/color possibility. Instead of pulling similar dresses in advance they just said "sorry" and my bridesmaids had to help find other dresses. In the end, we just picked bridesmaid dresses we could not try on because that is the one I liked based on 1 sample dress. I will say the prices for dresses ended up being $150 on average which I think is pretty good. I called to speak with Nancy the next day to tell her I was dissapointed. I was calm and shared that as a business owner I thought she should know what a mess that appointment was. She just said "Oh no..I'm sorry" and that's it. No futher special attention or apologies made. Bridesmaid customer service = 1 of 5 stars
Tuxes. Nancy rents through Jim's formal wear. Good selection and the best prices in Indy. Most navy tux or suit rentals we saw started at $200. The tuxes with upgrading shirt, adding pocket square and shoes ended up close to $170 and the grooms was free (we had 10 other rentals include ushers & Dad) Tux Selection & Price = 4 of 5 stars
Alterations. I will say my dress looks great (wedding in 2 weeks). I will also say it was $450 for alterations which I think is INSANE...but clearly I paid it. I do not know the going rate for dress alterations. I had it hemmed, bustle added, top area taken in. The top was difficult to correct because it was very large, but I still feel that is a lot of money. At a certain point I was stuck and just had to get it done there. So...take this as a warning if you're not sure about alteration costs. Alterations = 3 of 5 stars (PRICEY THOUGH!!!!!!)
Overall I think the only reason they are in business is the selection. Giving 3 stars was hard for me...but I have to remember I LOVE my dress, it is the perfect fit (finally) and the tuxes were easy to rent through them. Each time I visit I am less impressed with the staff, but they have a shop with a large selection that is still in business for a reason. If you can go in knowing it wont be the greatest experience but you'll have a dress you love you'll be fine. Just dont expect...
