Smallcakes Cupcakery & Creamery — Local services in Indianapolis

I would not consider myself a cupcake connoisseur as cupcakes are really not my thing, I will eat them if they are offered for dessert but I would typically not ever purchase them. That being said my wife is a cupcake contessa and is one of the top cupcake baker I have ever known. Her cupcakes are creative moist flavorful and overall phenomenal. Again that being my wife's cupcakes have finally been graciously removed as the pinnacle of cupcakery,, (even my wife agrees. The cupcakes we experienced at the Smallcakes Cupcakery & Creamery were phenomenal and we waited 24 hours before even trying them. We had the lemon drop, chocolate cream, strawberry, wedding cake, pecan pie, and pumpkin cupcakes, of which the lemon drop the chocolate cream and the pecan pie were filled and had the perfect balance of cake icing and filling, my favorite was the chocolate cream (and I don't like chocolate) but it took me back in time to when I was a kid and loved my hostess cupcakes. My other favorites were the strawberry, so packed with strawberry goodness was super moist with the perfect not to sweet frosting with a strawberry glaze on top with just a hint of flavor of cream (this flavor was my favorite of my wife's cupcakes and we both agreed it had hers beat hands down). The other ones I liked were lemon drop pecan pie. I still prefer my wife's wegging cake but the rest of my family including my wife preferred their wedding cake for me it was too almond forward. Even in the middle of doling out a delicious delights, I was greeted as I entered with a a warm smile. The aroma of fresh icing was still in the air at 930 on a Saturday night, and although not crowded at all, the corner location, saw plenty of foot traffic slow-up, ad folxs looked in the window passing by.

The staff answered all my questions and offered taste-tests of anything I was curious about. I settled on the special of the month, Pumpkin spice, and was NOT disappointed. Although a bit pricey, for the size of the cupcakes, the cupcake to icing ratio was packed with flavor, and richness.

The variety of items offered from cupcakes to shakes, to icecream, will satisfy the sweet tooth on a slow afternoon or a late night. Well...

The shop is very charming, the gal working was polite and helpful. The shopping experience itself was very good. The cupcakes personally, weren’t for me. The cake itself in all three flavors has a nice density and texture. I think my distaste for them mostly came from the frosting—I tried the lemon, the peanut butter cup and the wedding cake. The former two had an artificial flavor to them that was hard for me to ignore. The latter one had an overwhelming almond (?) flavor to it that I found unpleasant. They were assembled very beautifully and looked very appetizing, and I didn’t want to leave any fewer stars just because my personal preference wasn’t met. If you like cupcakes, try it...
