Service: 3/5, Quality: 5/5, Value: 3/5
Short version: Great food, nice atmosphere, not too crowded. Try their vegetarian "impossible Burger" - Highly recommended!
Longer version: Service is about what you would expect for a restaurant. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable of the items. They have been willing to find out answers to questions they don't know the answers to. Again, about what you'd expect.
Quality wise, this place is AWESOME. I've tried several different things on their menu and each one has been phenomenal. I'm an ominvore but my SO is a vegetarian of 17+ years. Most recently i tried their new vegetarian "Impossible Burger" and I must say-- it was phenomenal. I've had my fair share of meaty and vegetarian burgers and the impossible burger sure pulled it off. Texture and taste was on par with a meaty burger to the point that it made me do a double check on it. Pretzel buns were high quality and not cheap like I've been conned into getting at other restaurants. I've also tried their seitan wings which were pretty great. Haven't had anything I didn't like from their menu so it's nice to have a few choices.
Value wise, this is about what you'd expect to go out to eat, if not a bit more pricey for what you'd typically spend at a pub. I'm willing to look past that though since the food tastes so good that it is still worth it. Oh, just beware that if you get a side with your meal the fries are an extra $2 upcharge. Stick...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've only been here once, but I definitely don't feel any need to go back. Everything was mediocre, not terrible, but also not amazing.
The parking lot is in the rear, which is not extremely easy to navigate to. Then you need to find the front door by walking past three doors, down an alley, and through the front-deck seating. If you're local, walking seems like a great option. If the weather is nice and the traffic is slow, I think the deck-seating would be nice.
The service was ok. They were normal people at work. Nice enough when you had their attention but it is a pub that doesn't put an emphasis on connections.
The food was not great. -Fish and chips had a good, unique breading texture (crunchy vs. crispy), but its overall flavor was just boring. -My expectations on the deep-dish pizza were probably too high. I thought that I was getting a Chicago-style, two-inch tall casserole of a pizza, but I received a Papa Murphys pizza with the outside two inches of crust just standing up and crunchy and dry. There was no depth to the actual pizza at all. It took 45 minutes to come out, and I was told it is the normal amount of time to expect. I didn't visit at a busy time of day. -Soft pretzels with cheese were disappointing as well. I'm not sure if you can tell from the picture, but the cheese was not smooth. I don't want to say gritty, but it definitely had an unpleasant texture. Pretzels were...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst thing is that Union Jack Pub is now situated directly across the street from the old location. There is convenient street parking available directly in front of the building.
Upon entering you are greeted by a hostess who seated us immediately. Our attentive server arrived at our table and brought us drinks. She then took our orders.
The three of us ordered the small fish and chips, a sicilian sandwich with onion rings an a kids chicken tenders. We waited for 15 minutes or so to get our food. I blamed it on me ordering the fish.
We all found our food to be just average. The Sicilian sandwich was sent back. The bread was so hard it was inedible as if it had stayed under a heat lamp for a long long time. The server was quit apologetic and immediately comped the sandwich. My cole slaw was actually warm and the cabbage texture mushy as if it had been cooked or sat out all day. My fish was ok and the frozen fries were ok also. The chicken tenders were overcooked so much so the crust was almost chocolate colored. All in all not a good showing for the cook.
I gave this restaurant a 3 because the server, hostess and decor deserved it. It would be a 2 if I only rated the food. My suggestion is to go to Union Jack Pub for after dinner drinks and eat at one of the many other great restaurants in...
