First off, I don't typically like giving negative reviews, but I feel this is warranted and others should be warned.
My wife and I purchase "Lifeproof" vinyl planking. We were sold on the premise that this stuff was essentially indestructible and was backed by a warranty. The gentleman at the flooring department desk even took out a set of keys and scratched at a plank to show us it was "scratch proof". We have 3 kids, so we thought having the peace of mind was worth the added expense to upgrade to the top-of-the-line flooring.
Fast forward to now. The Home Depot install team came and did the install without issue. There was a small hiccup with the delivery (they didn't deliver all the materials in the first run. If I didn't check, they wouldn't have had the quarter round on the install date) but they ended up running the rest of the stuff out in time for the install.
After the install within 3 months, we noticed a scratch on the "lifeproof" planking. Not very lifeproof. I contacted Home Depot customer service and they assured me up and down we would be taken care of, and it was covered under warranty. I have the log from this conversation. I contacted the manufacturer of the flooring, and they immediately told me that scratches were not covered as part of the warranty. Not what we were told at all by the store or by Home Depot customer service. I contacted customer service again and they promised I would be taken care of and they contacted the store on my behalf. After connecting with the store directly and they initially said they could help out. I even have a couple of boxes of the vinyl planking left over. I just asked if someone could out and swap the two planks from the left-over materials I have. No harm, no foul.
They ended up saying because it wasn't a defect that occurred during their install, it basically wasn't their problem. Pretty disappointing when we spent well over $3,000 with them to get the floor installed. A small amount of work installing materials I already have on hand on site to stand behind their product and the sales pitch of their flooring department seems like a reasonable ask in my opinion. It is literally the least I could ask and the easiest I could possibly make the process. Apparently, the store does not share my willingness to be reasonable.
Just wanted to give others a warning that if you are considering the lifeproof vinyl planking, you may want to reconsider. The floor looks great, but it has proven to not be life proof. It very well may have been a defect in the materials. I haven't noticed any issues outside of the two affected planks. My experience with customer service was cordial but did not yield a solution to my problem. My experience with the store post install has not been good, and I would not make a similar purchase with the Home Depot again in the future because of this. The floor will be fine, and I can swap the planks myself, but it's the principle of the matter that they swore up and down we would be taken care of. A low amount of effort for a customer who invested a large sum of money would have made me a perfectly happy customer.
I will say, the staff in the flooring department was very helpful at the time of sale. I don't think they had any intentions of misleading us on the...
Read moreWe were “bait and switched” when buying our Andersen 400 series windows from Home Depot. In Home Depot’s store display, the Andersen 400 Series windows has real wood(Pine) frames and wood window grills. We received Vinyl frames and fibrex grills when our windows were delivered. Not only did we not get what we ordered(fibrex grills and vinyl frames), but the quality of the windows is subpar(The nail holes were not covered and there is glue and wood filler smudged over the window/wood). Even our carpenter said, “these windows shouldn’t come like this.” On top of that, a window came damaged and ever since the delivery nothing has been done on our end even though we have been extremely patient and flexible throughout this whole process. We have done a lot on our end to try and communicate with store management. A lot of our time has been put into this now. We feel like we were sold something that isn’t the same as what is in the store and this is not ethical. We visited another Home Depot and the department lead said if your order says “wood interior” and “wood grills”, you should be getting wood. That is exactly what he tells the customers at his store that order these exact windows. We also went to another distributor/installation company of Andersen windows and they said the same thing. We went over our budget in order to get the higher quality Andersen 400 series windows. Our project has been completely thrown off our timeline with contractors not being able to complete their work during this period and again, we are extremely disappointed and underwhelmed. We feel like we have been extremely patient throughout this process and we are very disappointed with the way that this has been handled and Home Depot has only offered to take off $500 for windows that we paid over $10k for, not acceptable. It’s been over a month now and they won’t return phone calls/emails from us. The store manager said he would be on top of this and is trying to figure out a solution with HQ in Atlanta. That was 3 weeks ago, no communication from him since. We would of ordered the 200 level windows if we knew this and paid half the price. See photos of our order stating Pine instead of...
Read moreToday around 2:30 PM (5/24/2015) I was at Home Depot gathering a couple items: plants and paint. While in the paint department I came in contact with Helen, who was extremely rude, and proceeded to act like she didn't want to help me. I brought my paint up to the counter with the color I had picked and she said in a very disrespectful tone, do you have a color picked you want? At this point I'm just floored because, one- seriously? That's how you talk to customers and ask them if they need any assistance? and two- she portrayed someone who didn't really seem like they wanted to be at work, as if she was annoyed she even had to help me.. After her doing whatever on the computer she told me that because my paint was too dark I'd have to get the paint that cost almost $10.00 more. She said, Well if you're so set on that color then YAH you have to get this kind otherwise you NEED to change colors.. I asked her to show me where the paint was.. so she made me wait for another 5 minutes while she helped someone else and talked to her co-worker Patty, then finally brought me over to the paint that I had to get with the color I wanted. I asked again if she was sure I couldn't get a cheaper costing paint with my color. She said Nope. Rude again. Then while waiting for the paint to be made Patty and Helen decided that it was more important for them to chat about whatever instead of being presentable in front of customers... This is the second time that I've come to this Home Depot and had completely rude service in the paint department. This is completely disappointing to deal with when I originally had thought that Home Depot was about great service. I'm better off going to Menards if that's how the employees of Home Depot...
