I won't deny it is a lovely shop full of mostly high end, indie dyed yarns. It isn't hard to find a few skeins to fall in love with before you leave the shop. However, there is something about a shop that employs people who are more excited to help someone dig through ALL the yarn for their project, but won't provide decent basic customer service. Waited at the counter way too long while the only sales person was elbow deep in yarn with another customer who couldn't make up her mind which yarn to use for her project, who was there when I arrived and doing the same thing after I was ready to check out 30 minutes later.
The tell-tale sign of an awesome lys is the customer service upon checkout, when the cashier asks about what you are making, makes a bit of small talk or upsells an upcoming class, heck, and makes sure that a customer doesn't have to hunt for a pen to sign the credit receipt. But especially when a customer lays out $$$ and not a single offer is made to wind the skeins or to answer a quick question about whether there is a spot for customers to wind skeins themselves, that is when I feel like more attention could be paid to the basics. Those are the little things that tell you whether someone truly cares about every customer who walks through their door, or whether they are just there to hock yarn and trinkets till their next latte break.
So here I sit with expensive yarn I purchased for gift making, cursing the unattentiveness of a sales person while untangling it and winding it by hand myself. If you grace NK with your hard earned dollar, make sure you demand that your skeins be wound...
Read moreThis little shop is run by top notch, generous, and helpful people. Despite the dainty square footage, they have everything you need for your first high-end project to your latest masterpiece. They have yarns in all weights, colors, and most importantly fiber contents. I always find what I need to make great gifts for people with allergies or unique preferences/needs. They've allowed my pet dog inside at my request (please ask in advance) and even gave him a little treat. I've also found diverse pattern books and inspiring patten examples, high quality notions, and while I have not needed the service, I've seen that they will wind your purchased yarn at no additional charge. How lucky I am to live in walking distance! If I had an infinite budget, I'd spend many more hours at this...
Read moreZero professionalism. Condescending employees, so rude. Never coming here again.
My grandmother purchased only 6 skein of yarn, and the employees gave her more than she originally purchased. When we came in to return the extra (like good samaritans), they condescended us and said they had no record of the transaction. They acted like we were complete idiots for returning the extra yarn they didn't charge us for. I should've just kept the extra yarn instead of trying to return it.
I would rather pay twice as much and go literally anywhere else.
The woman who was the most rude had brown hair. I did not...
