I was at first somewhat excited for Costco to land in North Canton. After being a Sam's club member for many years, I had heard so many amazing things about Costco.
After joining, I've not at all understood the hype. It's a more expensive Sam's club that just simply copies what Sam's club has been doing for years, with twice the stress.
The good: I'll say it's a large store. Theres a ton of variety in the seasonal, home and everything else section. Lots of storage options, appliances, furniture, you name it. And it seems decent quality. The food quality all seemed decent although I struggle to see any difference between Sam's and them outside of the fact almost everything is organic. Some of the items are larger than Sam's or BJs which is a plus.
The bad and annoyances: The minute you walk in you're treated as if you're walking into a high security prison. They check your card, they make sure it matches your face, it's obnoxious. Just to walk in the door. When you checkout, they do it again. And heaven forbid they question your picture or that it's you. It's constant. I'm not sure what they think they're protecting themselves from but it's insanity. Especially after waiting 10 minutes in line for the self checkout. When I go to Sam's, it's a swift check of my card and they move on. Do you really need more than that? My second issue is the organic stuff. Everything you would see at Sam's for example, they have a bigger organic version at Costco and it's more expensive. Good luck finding anything for a reasonable price. They also have an extremely slim milk selection. I typically purchase 1% but they don't even carry 1%.
My confusion lies in people saying that Costco is better than Sam's and I just don't see it. You can get the same products, cheaper (cheaper membership too!) and you can use things like scan and go and never wait in a line at Sam's. At Costco it's a game of how much can we antagonize you before you check out. Also, the cafe is sub par and the hype is unjustified.
Overall I think BJs or Sam's provides much better value and customer experience over Costco. I shouldn't have to be treated like a criminal Everytime I try to checkout at a store. I've opted to discontinue my membership after a year and will stick with Sam's.
PS: Sam's has cheap rotisserie chicken too and it even comes in a plastic container! Same price, just as good. Don't buy into the...
Read moreNever had a Costco membership but I will not be ever getting one due to this occurrence. Food court, please don’t tell customers that if they call in for an order they can have someone else pick it up. Now I’m not blaming you but I could have avoided being harassed by an employee who ruined my experience. My sister (Costco member) ordered 8 pizzas for her party and asked the food court manager all the questions about me coming to pick up the pizzas. The told her to let me know I could go straight through the exit side to the food court and pick up the order. An older lady stopped me, and said I wasn’t allowed to do this, so I politely said this is what managers name told me to do and I’m sorry but I’m going to just pick up the order and if she’d like to see my receipt when I came back she could. Everything went fine up until I was leaving. This lady was staring me down and so I asked if she’d like to see my receipt, she stepped in close to me and told me that I wasn’t cute and proceeded to follow me through where the carts are to yell at me. I said nothing to her to start this and I looked at her name tag and told her to have a good day. She is very lucky I am collected because any person who isn’t would have put their hands on her for being so close and yelling at someone. I called to complain about the situation and management stated that I was in the wrong but they were sorry for what had happened. I can understand but how I was treated was highly unprofessional and disgusting. Also please tell people that they can’t do that! I was literally told by the food court to come in that way. Never again! Costco get your employees before someone hurts themselves for talking to...
Read moreCostco is widely celebrated for its vast selection of products, from bulk groceries to electronics and everything in between, all available at competitive prices. While it offers significant savings, especially for families or those stocking up, shopping at Costco can sometimes feel overwhelming due to its large warehouse environment and the sheer volume of choices.
The membership-based model ensures that prices remain low, but it also means an added cost upfront. For those who shop frequently or for large households, this is usually a worthwhile investment. However, for smaller households or those who shop infrequently, the membership cost may not always justify the savings.
One of Costco’s biggest draws is its private label, Kirkland Signature, which offers quality comparable to or surpassing national brands at a fraction of the cost. Whether it’s food items, clothing, or household goods, Kirkland products are a reliable staple for many shoppers.
Here’s a tip: Visit during weekdays or off-peak hours to avoid the massive crowds that are typical on weekends and right after work. This makes navigating the large store and long checkout lines much more manageable.
In conclusion, Costco is a paradise for bargain hunters and bulk buyers, offering quality products at great prices. However, the vastness of the store and the requirement of membership can make it less appealing for those looking for a quick shop or who have limited...
