Worst experience ever and will never shop there again! We were looking for a Barnes and Noble, but ended up at Books-a-Million and that turned out to be a huge mistake. We were shopping for books for our grandchildren for Christmas. It was hard to find anyone to ask a question, but finally located someone and said I was trying to find the Chicken Soup for the Soul books as we searched everywhere we could think of. She told me they would be in the cooking section. I told her they aren't cookbooks and explained more. She you are the second person to ask me about those books today. Obviously she didn't figure anything out after the first person asked. She asked another employee and told me general area never bothering to actually help me find it. We finally get all of our purchases and head to the register where Bob, the cashier says they are out of bags and then magically is able to use a Books-a-Million reusable bag after making a big deal of having it to us for free. We didn't ask for it. Then he proceeds to try to sell a membership to us. He get going on and on and on about the features. I had already told him I use audio books through another source and really only shop for books at Christmas. He started all over again about the membership and told me I'd save $15 today. I asked how much it costs and he wouldn't tell me just kept telling me every feature of it that I already said I wouldn't use. All the while there is a long line of customers waiting. I asked to more times how much the membership is and he still wouldn't answer. I then said is the cost less than $15. He just repeated my question and began all over again about the benefits so I finally just said I don't want it. At that point, my husband walked out as he couldn't stand there and listen to him anymore. I paid and he gave my receipt and just stood there now not willing to bag my many items in the bag he had made such a huge deal about. I tried to pick up the purchases, but I had too many to carry and began dropping them and some were fragile so I set them down and said I need to get my husband to help me and went outside to get him. We had decided we were just going to ask for a refund at this point, but he had everything bagged up them and was holding the bag over the counter like the huge jerk he had shown himself to be throughout the whole ordeal. I took it and said thank you ad I didn't want to deal with him one minute longer. From now on I will find somewhere else to...
Read moreI had wanted to cancel my membership and the millionaire club card. The cashier and the manager were both helpful and kind. There were no backlash or bad words exchange during the process of canceling the card. The manager was able to cancel it and refund me for the month of the Auto renewal. It was a $25 autorenewal so was refunded $25. I am glad the refund issues that the store have had was fixed so that you at least got refunded for the month. I only gave 4 stars, because I would like to have been fully refunded for the months in the past, if not by months, by at least a year worth of refund Monies that they have automatically taken out of my account for renewal. So if I was renewed in beginning of January 2016 to December 2016, I would get 2016’s worth of refund, I would get $300 back(if I did my money back). Which is pretty good amount to have back, because for someone who is a young adult out on their own that is about covers half of Rent I think. So it would be great if BAM improves their policy about that part of refunding. Then I would definitely give 5 stars and be willing to shop more at their...
Read moreOverall, a fun place. I noticed some changes upon my last visit. There seemed to be a lot more toys in the section where the art and hobby books section used to be. Those kinds of books had a smaller section than before. I did buy some toys for my daughter but they were priced a bit high. I was disappointed that there werent more art and film books. I remember a fabulous selection years ago. When I say this I mean specific artists and filmakers or books on old hollywood and classic horror films. I suppose this is a specific niche and I will probably have to start shopping for my books online. The novel, magazine and card selection is still very good. I will say the checkout experience wasnt great, the cashier kept trying to push the $25 membership card on me after I said “no thank you” and wasn't paying attention to what she was doing. She ended up ringing up one of my books twice and I caught it myself on my receipt before...
