Reply to the owner: Brett, I really do appreciate you taking time to address my review but I am not sure that you read it as I was quite clear about every aspect of my visit. It was not a mistake on anyone's part. I was given a price by a manager, and then the next day the SAME MANAGER remembered speaking with me and at his request I went back to look for the pallet again. When I told him that it was still there he said "The price is double what I told you yesterday". At that point I asked why and he said "Because it's worth more than $150", and those are exact quotes! I also appreciate your offer of a tour and explanation of policies but I received both of those on Thursday. I was really looking forward to delving into this business but it really seems awfully shady now. You reply to every negative post by explaining that the questionable activity was due to a misconception or miscommunication. Instead of blaming everything on misconceptions, you should instruct your employees to stop engaging in questionable business methods.
Original review: I visited american pallet liquidators yesterday for the first time and after looking around I noticed that there were pallets which looked identical but had different prices on them. I asked asked a young lady if it was based on weight or if the difference was contents. She explained that they really have no idea what is in the pallets, they figure their cost per pallet based on what the truckload cost them and then add a small percentage to come up with a price. Then while browsing I asked another employee how many pallets they go through so he took me in the back and showed me a warehouse of pallets waiting to go on the floor. One pallet I saw interested me so I asked if it was available for purchase and he said he would ask for a price so he tracked down the manager and was told it would be $150. I went to the cashier to ask about purchasing it and I saw that there was a fee for using a credit card (which I completely understand) so I told her that I would return the next day with cash. I returned as planned and inquired about the pallet that I had looked at the day before. The same manager told me to go back and see if it was still there so I walked in the back and found it. I waited for someone to come along on a fork truck so I could have them load it and that same manager came by and I said "This is the one I want". He then told me that the price was now $300, double what I was quoted the day before. I asked why the price changed and he said that it was worth more than $150. So much for the pallets price being based on what they pay for it, they know exactly what is in every pallet and THAT is what the prices are based on. Most of the pallets are just big boxes with no tops so I find it hard to believe that things are not moved from box to box. APL has lots of negative reviews and I can see why. When I mentioned the negative reviews on my first visit I was told that they do not get negative reviews so I must have been on someone else's website. On my first visit I get a bait & switch tactic so I can see why they get so many negative reviews. And I AM ON THE...
Read moreDrove all the way down from Michigan . Looked over all the skids.....the ones where I could see in the top looked more like a dumpster than anything with any resale value. I did end up purchasing a pallet for $299 ($367 after taxes and fees) Here's a short summary of what I got. A TV stand that was missing the hardware so it could not be assembled A Mainstays 6 cube organizer with the screwholes blown out so it could not be assembled A Mainstays 2 drawer / cube organizer. At least that's what the box said. The contents was a random hodge podge of broken sauder shelving in several different colors. Junk An ice maker that began screaming when I plugged it in. A Walmart box that contained used coloring books, water hats, and toys pieces . A large unmarked cardboard box that contained mainly air. But in the bottom was a 10 lb dumbbell, a 6 lb disc weight, toothbrushes, a basketball hoop and a crack pipe in a case. Yep a crack pipe. "Happy kit dab" Google it. Two primo htrio water coolers that when I touched them began leaking rusty water all over everything. A suede futon with no legs. Two sets of LED workshop lights. One worked, the other had been crunched, but still worked. A broken clothes drying rack. A kids battery powered Jurassic Park four wheeler, which has the front missing. Could only see the back when it was in the pallet all wrapped up. Two wood and metal chairs that were in the center of the pallet so they took up alot of pallet real estate, but weren't visable. They we're both gouged and scratched so bad, I just set them out by the road . I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things, but if it were up to me, I'd forget ever driving down there . They also run an auction on Facebook. They will extend bidding 2 minutes if someone enters a bid in the last 2 minutes. Makes sense. But they will continue to take bids well after the auction time has ended after nobody has bid for several hours. So don't expect to actually win any auctions . An example would be....bidding ended at 3:00.....you bid at 2:59 so bidding gets extended to 3:01 or 3:02. Fine makes sense. But then someone buds at 5:30, when the auction is closed and the 5:30 bidder wins the pallet. All in all, I wasted a day and alot of gas. I am not gonna be able to recoup what I spent or make any small amount in profit. Boxes with damaged or broken features were packaged in such a way that everything looked fine from the outside. I would not recommend getting anything from them. Not actually sure how they're still in business. So do yourself a favor and buy from an actual reputatable liquidator instead of from a few people in a busted down warehouse walking around pushing...
Read moreThis place is still holding 1675 of my money. I would shop here with caution and cash only.
edited - Thank you for your response. I want to clarify that the transaction of $1,675 is no longer pending; it has actually posted to my account. While I appreciate the information about the voided transactions, the fact remains that I am still without these funds, which has significantly impacted my ability to operate as a small business owner during this holiday period.
I understand that the initial transaction approval was a bank issue, but it would have been more efficient to process the original $2,000 and then run a second transaction for the remaining amount. I appreciate your offer to assist further, and I will reach out if the funds are not returned promptly. However, I feel it’s important for potential customers to be aware of my experience.
Thank you for your understanding..
Final update.
After reviewing everything and reflecting on the situation, I now see that this may have been a miscommunication or a technical issue during the transaction process. I’m still not certain why $1,675 posted to my account out of a $2,100 total, as I wasn’t aware that a partial charge was being submitted—especially since I believed the transaction hadn’t gone through.
That said, I appreciate the multiple follow-ups and the effort to help resolve the issue, including outreach to your credit card processor. It’s clear that you made efforts on your end to clarify things and assist, and for that I’m grateful.
While the experience was stressful and confusing at the time, I’m hopeful that this can serve as a learning point for both of us in future transactions....
