Don't usually review a grocer, was asked to, so here goes.. Kroger location on tenth street, Jeffersonville, IN isn't very old, so one should expect a fairly high quality prepared item from its deli. To be fair, I've made a dozen visits, trying various deli offerings to establish a base line, testing the same items on each visit. Honestly, why would they even serve that? was this some over priced hoax being played upon the public as a joke? Is the deli manager smoking crack? Seriously, just about every item tested was very low quality, I couldn't even base it in the institutional foods category! tested items were chicken gizzards, chicken livers, bbq wings, buffalo wings, original & coated, roasted and bites, including ribs. Highly recommend cutting back on the salt brines, very little concern was given when developing your current recipes or the employee just tossed the entire box in! the first bite of that chicken wing was pleasant, for about a 1000's of a second, the salt quickly established a foot hold and took the taste buds hostage! with each style of chicken offered, had very similar results. Chicken gizzards are a gas station delicacy/staple, should've been one of the simplest of items to prepare, offering a nice time tested favorite.. think again! having tried them fresh cooked to order AND refrigerated, it was across the spectrum, the freshly cooked ones offered a very unpleasant hard coating? was the intention to disguise the rubber ball hidden within? being way over cooked, I could only imagine comparing it to chewing a bite off of a fan belt! the refrigerated offering sported a soggy coating that still covered up more rubber balls! The chicken livers faired okay, yet also sported the concrete coating encapsulating a meat that was on the border of cremation. The chicken wings were begging for Xanax, bi-polar due to salt poisoning! Again, this product varied, often the samples were dry, and over cooked. Prime pricing for the sub-par ribs, clearly not smoked or seasoned properly, both samples were on the bland side, texture was tough, more likely to be a precooked, packaged item being offered as a fresh prepared offering. The chicken bites, no matter the visit, continues to be quite disgusting, which explains the cheap price point. texture resembles that of a frozen freezer chicken patty that did something wrong in its last life, breading was sweat soggy and was evident it contained sugar, the advertising on the bag was quite deceptive, seriously, taste the product before subjecting it to unsuspecting customers! Neither one of my dogs wanted anything to do with them, after tasting them myself, I could clearly understand why. many of the products offered currently are pretty disgusting and certainly don't warrant the pricing being charged. Recently I reviewed the deli pizza, it rated just above the sub-par level, but toppings were very sparse, I suspected a drought may have hindered the supply chain, so pizza supplies rationing was a must. Across the board, I'd have to give Kroger's deli a .10 of one star out of a 5 star rating. The food quality certainly doesn't meet the expectation of the price point being charged, food holding/warming cabinets certainly point to the fact the deli doesn't care about what its putting out. Will continue to evaluate this location for changes and let you know.. UPDATE: After writing this review, I decided to try another product the deli was offering. Boneless, non-breaded chicken wings! Clearly its hard to mess up such a simple item ! Think again ! If the intention was to transform chicken into tough one inch cubes of dried out pork chop, you guys nailed it ! I heated half the product up to see if perhaps warming any fat contained within would offer any sort of tenderness.. wrong! still as tough and stringy as the cold samples. the bbq sauce had the appearance of being watered down, bland as could be. chewing was quite difficult and pointed to the already stated fact, like the rest of the chicken offerings, being way over cooked. Clearly Not Worth the $6.99 per pound...
Read moreOk, upfront I don’t usually review grocery stores. Most are standard big box assortments and as long as I can get my groceries and feel safe and secure, I am not too particular. But, tonight I was irritated by my experience and it is time the grocery store oligarchs heard from at least one unhappy individual.
In classic form, I want to comment on the facilities first. This Kroger is relatively new and overall in good order. The building features a modern vibe, is very clean, and I had no problem finding what I needed in a short time.
What irritated me was the operation. First, when arriving we were greeted by a gang of staff whose only assignment was to guard the door and inform anyone approaching that the store was closing soon. Each customer was reminded they had a specific set of minutes to get their stuff and get out. One or two people would have been sufficient - five was overkill and the other four were goofing off more than doing anything productive.
Inside the loud speaker also announced the closing, but with the exception of the staffer that had to come through the aisle and remind us the store was closing soon and the one staffer at the USCAN, no one else was to be found. It was a ghost town. Luckily, I didn’t need any help. I got the few items I needed, checked out, and left because I clearly felt unwelcome.
My main issue - and what the grocery store oligarchs need to hear - is that closing a major grocery store at 10:00 pm when all your stores use to be open 24 hours or at least open until 12:00 pm before the pandemic is ridiculous. Not everyone has the ability to shop during the day. Some work late shifts into the evening. If we are declaring the pandemic over, get back to business as usual and stop...
Read moreI use clicklist as often as I can and normally I have a great experience. Ever since I’ve started using this location for click list it has been a nightmare. I place my order and select my time slot arrange my day around it and then an hour before my pickup time I get a call saying they are behind and my time has been pushed back. It seems to be happening to everyone as now no one is coming to their chosen slot and you have a line that takes 45min to 90min (yes I have waited 90min to get my groceries). My most recent visit I set my pick up time for 11-12, I get a call at 10 saying their behind and it will be ready around 1:30. I got at 1:30 there is a line of at least 17 cars, including the ones in the slots, and I only see 1 person bringing food out. So, we leave and come back at 7. We are helped at 7:30 and are told “there were a lot of Smiths today and it looks like we gave half of your order to someone else.” We had the option of getting what they had picked free or they can go and pick them in about 20min. We opted for the 20min and went home to drop our kids and come back. When I came back they brought out the food and I left. When I got home I realized we didn’t get 60% of our order which we calculated to be about $80 worth of food. One would think that if you’ve told the customer that you gave half their food to someone else and we’re going to pick the food again that they would triple check you got the order right but no that didn’t happen. It’s extremely frustrating at the lack of organization and efficiency. This store’s click list...
