I just wanted to share my experience at this facility. I was taken by ambulance for an accidental opioid overdose almost against my will since I was nearly unconscious when I was picked up by the ambulance, and, nearly dead, they asked me if I wanted go to KU. I just wanted to survive so I said yes. Instead of giving me an opiate blocker or anything like that, I spent nearly nine hours suffering, being almost unable to breathe. They gave me two bags of saline and oxygen, which totaled over $200. Then they ran as many tests as they seemingly could, resulting in over $2000 in labratory tests, of which I recieved not a single result, only the bill. The only person that actually seemed to care was the nurse, who came into my room every time I passed out and my oxygen levels began to drop, which happened maybe every 15 minutes for the nine hours I was there. It was absolutely terrible as I struggled to breathe for hours, and then they tried to convince me to stay overnight, presumbably so they could stack up the bill. It was an absolutely miserable experience, the only saving grace was the nurse who actually helped keep me alive, even though she blew my vein leaving me with a bruise that lasted for weeks, though I still greatly appreciate her, I would definately recommend people go elsewhere. I think they have some sort of deal with the local ambulance services to where they bring people there just so they can rack up the money. I could barely speak but they wanted to ask me where I wanted to go, but the only suggestion they gave me was KU. I was disoriented and falling unconscious so I didn't care as long as I had the treatment I needed. Sitting for hours and hours suffocating isn't exactly what I had in mind. Stay away from for-profit hospitals. They only give you the best treatment if you have money. Otherwise, they'll just let you suffer and then charge you thousands of dollars...
Read moreI had a very good opinion of this hospital until Dr. Damien R Stevens MD and the nurse called me to say that my test was sleepy had not given negative results that if I continued with the problems to sleep and breathe I would return. That is the diagnosis? That is the correct performance of a doctor for a patient? For they studied medicine but are able to discover, diagnose and treat the health problems of their patients. Is that it is just about charging patients such a bad service. And to continue with the health problems. It will be discrimination or lack of professionalism. I extremely deserve the appointment, and after Tanta the doctor is not able to diagnose a problem, much less refer me to another specialist than if he is able to help me. I must continue with my problems with sleep and breathing until I get a serious and committed professional with the patient and his profession, not with the money.
Read moreThe following is me stating my opinion - Doctor Damien Stephens has to be the worst most unprofessional arragont doctor I have ever come across. I see him for narcolepsy and I DO NOT RECOMMEND that anyone see him for that. It is clear to me he does not understand the disease, take the time to listen to patients or care, even though he claims to have "trained" the most loved doctor many other people with narcolepsy see at KU med, Dr Suzanne Stevens, who I asked for a doctor stevens not knowing there were two and got put with him mistakenly.
I have seen him for a year and my last appointment he would not let me restart a drug for my incredibly realistic nightmares I had been given FROM HIS OFFICE and from all my doctors dating back 10 years at least (temezepam or klonopin) because of "the dea watches him" his words. Instead he offers me Belsomra, a drug that has a warning you are NOT supposed to take with narcolepsy. The man clearly doesn't know what he's doing in my option. Just another arrogant doctor who thinks he's god. My nightmares are so bad I have called 911 twice in the last two months as I have woken up because I thought I was dying and I have nothing to calm me down afterwards. INSTEAD he gives me Luenesta as a second choice, a drug my insurance will barely cover and will also increase my nightmares, amplifying the problem not helping it. He then offers me others I did not recognize but i no longer trusted his judgement. STAY AWAY...
