Too Cool — Local services in Kennebunkport

We visited the shop on July 2 2022 around 2:15pm. My husband and I spent over $100 in shirts, sweatshirts, hats, etc. The girl who checked us out seemed nice initially. The issue was two girls working in the store were whispering that they thought one of our kids stole a shirt. They didn’t say it to us, but we heard them saying it. It was not hard to hear what was being said in a store that small. Absolutely ridiculous and insulting. There was a young brunette girl who was slightly larger than the other girl and on the shorter side who was whispering this to the other girl who checked us out. My son put a shirt down before he walked out of the store because we purchased other shirts we liked better than that one. The staff needs to be more careful and actually pay attention to what actually goes on rather than disrespecting customers. After spending over $100 on clothing items here you don’t whisper that the kids stole something when that was absolutely not the case. I encourage the owner to look at what happened on security cameras if they have one. You will see the situation play out. The shirt put down before the kid walks out and the staff clearly not paying attention to what’s going on and then whispering to each other. What makes it even worse is they picked out the one adopted child of a different race to accuse. Everyone else was white except the one child they accused. The girl admitted to accusing our son of this and didn’t even apologize. She didn’t say “oh I’m sorry for my mistake” or anything of the sort. It was extremely disrespectful. We opened up all our bags to show they were absolutely wrong. They didn’t ask us to open our bags but we were so disgusted that we wanted to show them what they were whispering was not correct. Although this store seems like a really cool store and sells nice stuff the staff should be more careful. They were extremely disrespectful and I will never go back. I would like to speak to the owner about this situation. I don’t have an issue with the owner or store itself, it was the staff member that was an issue. If I was the owner I would definitely look into who was working on that day and time and speak to them about this horribly disrespectful situation. I gave 3 stars instead of 1 because the store is nice and I want to believe the others working here are decent people. Next time we will go to a different store where our family will be respected. It’s pretty disgusting stuff like this still happens in 2022. Again the problematic staff member was the young girl (brunette, short, slightly larger than the other staff female) working the floor folding clothes at the time. I am only explaining this to differentiate the two females working at the time. I see the owner reads reviews so I am hoping they will speak to this staff member about the situation. Coming to Kennebunkport is an annual tradition for the past 15+ years, and I come shop at Too Cool EVERY single time. Family-owned, the staff is so nice; they are accommodating and deliver great customer service. Chatting with owner Denis is always such a pleasure and something I look forward to. He is such a kind person and truly appreciates his customers. It’s a small shop, but he makes good use of every inch of the store (which makes it fun to browse) and you won’t find a better selection anywhere else! The prices are very reasonable and way better compared to other similar shops in town. I absolutely love coming here; such a fun place to shop; THE best place to go. Oh, and FYI, all the clothing I have bought over the years holds up really well to washing/wearing and standing the test of time. Visited the store a few years ago from out of state and brought back souveniers. My dad wore his original shirt to actual shreds.
