I just recently purchased books to be shipped out to a person who is incarcerated. I was under the understanding that the store ships the books you purchase to a facility. I filled out paperwork in the store and paid shipping separately from the books I purchased. There was an older lady I spoke to who had me fill out a half sheet of paper and explained that there was two different types of packages you can purchase for the books. One package was $7 and the other was $13 I bought two books that were big so it needed to be placed in a bigger package. The lady showed me the box that cost $13 to ship.she told me my books I purchased would be sent out in the box that she showed me, along with another lady that was very irritated to help figure out payment options with us. A couple days later the books were sent back to me because the facility stated that the books have to be sent from a company. I look at the postage and realize they were only charged $6.40 for postage and I paid $13 for postage and the books were in a bag instead of a box. So I went to the store to ask why my books were sent out from the post office in this manner. It was supposed to be sent from the business. I also wanted to know why I was charged double when they Cleary did not spend what they charged me on shipping and if there was a way we can fix the issue to be resent out or I could just be refunded for the books. The lady I spoke to called another lady on the phone who she said was the manager and I asked if I could speak to her because I clearly wanted to know where my money went they pocketed and I wanted this explained to me the right way because the lady who was in front of me was clearly not making any sense and was yelling at me the entire time I'm trying to explain to her that I was ripped off. The lady in the store took my book off the counter with the postage envelope and threw my books out the door and kicked the rest out that didn't make it out the door came back to me and told me to get out. I told her I need to speak to a manager! She said, " I am the manager" clearly she wasn't . I told her I need to speak to the person you were just talking too on the phone because clearly she wasn't someone to talk to. She said get out I'm calling the police. She called the police. I waited for the police to arrive while waiting for the police to arrive she also called her boyfriend. Her boyfriend arrived before the police did. Her boyfriend came and tried to intimidate me to leave so I couldn't get a refund for my books. I told him I was not leaving until the police came. The lady that states she was a manager said she isn't going to give me a refund and that's the stores policy. I am appalled by this business and how I was treated. There was no reason for that angry lady to go that far. But yet the police did allow me to be refunded for my books and the did all in all pocket my money for shipping, just an FYI I have purchased books from this store with no problems it's just this one lady who claims she's a manager is not good with customers and can't explain a simple question with...
Read moreSadly, this seems to be the last of a dying breed ... a retail card and gift store. On a positive note, RK News is an excellent local business to support! You are almost always greeted as you walk in, even if the checkout line is long and ugly.
Be sure to allot a decent amount of time if you are shopping for greeting cards. You might enter only needing a card for Grandma but exit with a bag full of funny cards for everyone you know ... even birthday cards for (and from) your cats!
Make sure to also visit the very rear Clearance section for some nice savings. I can't remember if it is marked specifically but they usually have various percentage off signs spread around.
They also sell books and magazines ... and candles ... and stationery ... and Jesus-y gifts ... and sparkly slippers ... and wedding stuff ... and jewelry ... and you get the idea. They almost always gifts for Star Wars, Wizard of Oz, Harley Davidson, Disney, and Muppets - look around as they might not all be merchandised together. I have a feeling a lot of these items might be hard-to-find, check here before you pay through the...
