I honestly don't know how this company has 5 stars through the reviews. For the money we spent renting camping gear, we'd have been better off buying our own gear and leaving it somewhere in the woods. First their lock boxes all have the same combo, pretty unsafe if you ask me. I guess based on this condition of the gear, makes sense. First we set up our tent and notice a note stating the zipper didn't work. Clearly back40 never checks between renters as we could barely get it to work. Then putting stakes in the ground and we dont even have enough to stake all the tie downs for the rain guard. Thanks again back40. Real quality stuff. Then the chairs are the cheapest walmart chairs, which I swear on my life were sized for children. Im a 6'2" 215lb man. Not the greatest for me. Now, let's talk about the cooler, again quality stuff from walmart, that can't even keep the lid on properly from keeping your ice melting. Last the sleeping bags are not big enough for anyone about over 5'8" so if you're tall, shop somewhere else. All in all I think all these 5 stars reviews are either paid for, or are family and friends. Dont waste your time with back40 unless you're cool paying premium prices for straight up bad quality product.
I will say the best thing we were provided was dishes and cooking gear. If that is all you need this is your place. Otherwise please trust me or youre gonna be out in the woods...
Read moreI’ll first say that being able to rent gear from a business is convenient. However, I would not rent from here again. I am going to give as objective of a review as possible.
The good: The kitchen gear was useful and mostly in good shape. The biggest issue we had was that the lighter did not work, which is not great when you have no power or another source of fire. The air compressor for air mattresses, and the air mattresses themselves worked fine. The tent spikes we did have were good quality.
The bad: The sleeping bag did not fit my husband, who is over 6’ tall. It did fit me, but I’m 5’5”. It was cold, and he had to sleep in the car. I’d recommend sending sizes if you plan to rent from here, or better yet, the company have a form you can fill out to make sure you get an appropriate size. The tent zipper was a pain. There was a note in the bag stating one of the zippers did not work. It should not take close to ten attempts to close a tent. There were not enough spikes for the tent. Again, the lighter did not work. The chairs barely held my husband’s weight. He is about 215 pounds. The can opener did not work. The “unique” code for the secure lock is not unique. This could potentially be a massive problem.
The quality was about as expected, but for the money we spent for four nights, we could have bought and donated...
Read moreWe had a great time renting a concert camping kit from Back 40 Outfitters and will definitely be doing so again in future!
We were highly impressed with the quality of the items we rented, especially the tent, which was tall enough for two people to stand in. Beyond the basic rental, we also added on a cooler, extra chair, small table and sunshade (highly recommend - worth the setup) for a very reasonable price. Everything ended up working out great!
Beyond renting us great camping gear, we were also given advice and recommendations on the venue, travel to/from, etc. The team went out of their want to give us all the info we needed to have a great trip. Shannon and her team truly care about each customer's experience and are invested in making sure you have an amazing time!
We will definitely be renting from...
