I'm a voracious reader, and I've been saddened by the closure of most physical bookstores in my area. I loved the days I could walk into a book store and just browse around until a book popped out at me and convinced me to buy it. So, when I found a great deal on a full set of a series I was looking to read on the BAM website, I pounced on the opportunity to visit this location. The website listed it as in-stock and priced at $54.76, so I made my way there.

I entered and was delighted by the size of the store and that new book smell. I was really surprised at just how big it was, and it brought me back to the days of when I could only buy books in a store. Awesome, I figured. Maybe I'd start shopping for physical books in stores more often.

I found the box set I was looking for after browsing for a while and checking out other titles. Satisfied with my nostalgia trip, I took the box up to the front check out, where there was no line. Nice.

The cashier said nothing as I approached; not a hello or anything. I get it; it was late, I was checking out 20 minutes before they closed. That's fine. He scanned my item, only for it to come out to $93 and change. Woah, hold up! I know there's sales tax, but I was pretty sure a ~$54 book wouldn't have sales tax of $39!

I asked if there was some kind of mistake; nope. He flipped the set over and showed me that the price on the bottom read $86.93. I told him that the price on their website was $54.76; he replied with "I know". I asked if they price match their own website, and was met with "no." That's it. I asked if they price match Amazon (which listed it even cheaper, at $52), and was given a sigh and another "no". I asked if they did buy online, pick up in store. "No."

I asked if there was any possible way to get the set for the price their website advertises. "No." Okay then. I thanked him for his time, he sighed and grunted a "good night" as he plopped the bookset down hard on the counter behind him, and I left, very unsatisfied.

From my car, I pulled out my smartphone and within two minutes was able to place an order on Amazon for the correct price (actually, $2 cheaper!) and it will arrive tomorrow, free. No hassle over the price, and would have saved me the car trip.

While I truly miss the times I could venture into a bookstore casually, I absolutely can't justify spending that much more on the "experience" of...

Today I really started to dislike this place because of two employees, Luis and another short-girl with curly reddish hair. First time when I went to this store this man, Luis, started to ask “where are you from?” like isn’t that question too personal? For me it is. Second time that I was there returning a manga he asked the same question and started saying that the manga I choose was mid and lame… first of all man.. are you paying for it? No. Oh well mind your own business then. So I went to the manga section to buy recent releases and I went to the checkout and encountered him once again and a short girl with curly reddish hair. I bought like different types of mangas and he was saying “this is mid, mid, mid, and mid” I honestly felt anxious, I just wanted to leave right away because the way I was feeling wasn’t right plus at the very final when he was going to give me the receipt, he whispered to the short girl “I think she likes me” and they looked at me straight and laughed in front of me. I felt horrible. This man really disgusts me. How can they treat a customer like that..

It’s a shame that you have to go through situations like this as a girl tbh. Customers are customers not your friends, you have to respect them cuz you don’t know how damaging your actions are going to be… this store is nice but these two...

I went there to get a book to read relaxed at home that rainy afternoon. When I got to the register I was offered to sign up for some “free” magazines.

The guy simply asked “which free ones would I like to receive” after I picked, he printed a receipt for me to sign. I was able to read that I was signing for a paid subscription which he didn’t even explained. I said no and he told me that in order to cancel the order I needed to “write my name on the paper”. I found it fishy and asked how can they tell if it was my signature or my name and he promised that was the only way to “void the transaction”.

I had to return to the store to return one of the items I got and since I overheard someone complaining about being enrolled for the free magazines without their consent, I asked my register to confirm that I wasn’t enrolled which she responded in a unpolite way “no, you are not” without even checking.

1 month after, here I am with some UNWANTED magazines on my mail and a pending charge on my card.

This is absolutely disrespectful and unacceptable even if they are being paid a compensation for the signs ups.

It was not only how uncomfortable they make the shopping experience with the pushing to enroll to this but that they basically obligating you to pay for something you don’t...

Here, I searched for books that allow me to delve even further into the mind of one of the characters I have designed. I LUV BAM.

Out of all the bookstores near me, BAM is my go-to! I just recently bought online twice last week too because they were having SUCH good sales and I couldn't help myself! The variety of books, from kids to teens, graphic novels to nonfiction, there's something for everyone here! There's also plushies, Funko POPs, fan merch, you name it! I'm such a book nerd so BAM is like my personal heaven. Definitely recommend stopping in! Also, check out the little café! It's a good study spot. I've bought all of the My Hero Academia books from BAM and pre-ordered the August volume already so as you can see, I really love this place!
