Five Star of Knox — Local services in Knox

In many respects this is s typical small-town grocery. Not new and nice, but functional. But there is one major pro and one major con that must be mentioned.

Pro: Amazing meat deals. Like very surprising ones. Thick NY strip steaks $4 a pound. Awesome.

Con: Very disappointing produce. Often poor quality but higher prices than in the city. Part of that is unavoidable due to location cost. But also, they package much of the produce on foam trays covered with plastic. It's wasteful and adds cost, but also it makes it harder for me to choose my own pieces, and buy the amount I want. The most egregious example - you can only get cilantro in a tiny bundle strapped to a 4x6 tray. And $2 for that! Blew my mind. Practices like this are decades old and inefficient. What's up with the one cashier she's been there a long time i think. The really old lady with the black frizzy fried hair , she wears a ton of makeup, she is as rude as rude can be. My husband is 5 years younger than me, he is 50, im 55 and she had the audacity to ask me while I was checking out my items " how I got such a young man to marry me and how nice for me, how did you pull that off?" 😳 my husband wasn't with me on this particular visit . I had to laugh because it's such a ridiculous question and to have the nerve to ask somebody that you don't even know is just weird and rude.......now every time I go in there I see her talking to the other cashiers and whispering, when there not busy,. I always bye my meat here and I love that it is so clean and the worker's are very respectful of u when you are in need of information. (June of 2021 ) I was doing a little shopping when I started to have a very bad sugar reaction and thought I was going to pass out. I just made it to the end of the check out line when I got the attention of the bag boy and ask him to please come over to where I was. I asked him to get me some thing to sit down before I passed out he came back with a stool and he also told the manager and she got me something to drink so my sugar would go up and I could go home.
