TLDR: this gym does not care about a customer’s health and are only interested in their bottom line. Do not sign up.
I went to try Crunch on a trial offer and found it was a solid place to workout. The music was loud but the machines are clean and plentiful. My aunt was also interested in checking out the gym so she came with me and we walked around, checked it out, then went to the front desk and asked questions. Optimistic about getting into shape again, my aunt signed up for a personal training session and a membership, but said she’d have to wait to schedule the PT session because she’d been having sharp hip pain so she needed to get that sorted first. Later that week, my aunt went to her doctor who referred her not only to a hip specialist but also a spine specialist, with the note that she may need to have major surgery on both of these areas. My aunt called the gym and said she would need to cancel her PT and membership but the manager (Crystal) said that wasn’t possible; she’d need to have her PT appointment first before she could cancel anything. My aunt asked if, instead, she could just pause the membership and PT and was told she’d have to provide a doctor’s note for it. I, personally, hate this practice, needing a “doctor’s note” as an adult to leave a gym, but it’s common, so my aunt sent her, via email, the note from the doctor for the two referrals. Crystal said the account was frozen and my aunt would be all set. Well, five days later, my aunt was charged again (another $100+) for a PT session. My aunt called again and spoke with Crystal who told my aunt “sorry, the payment cycle already went through, so there’s nothing I can do.” My aunt was beside herself so I said I would go with her to the gym to talk to someone to get it sorted. When we got there, Nina, who worked in the PT department, was very kind and listened when we explained our experience with Crystal. Nina got a look on her face and shared, in not so many words, that this was something Crystal had done before and she was no longer working there (this was a week later). But that Nina would freeze the account and would forward the information to the new manager, Julon, who she said was just coming in this week and was great and would help get my aunt a refund for her PT sessions and cancel her membership. Again, the membership could not be canceled because of “outstanding” PT sessions. We also forwarded the emails exchanged with Crystal, including the doctor’s notes, to Nina and we left, my aunt feeling better about the situation. Well, as you may have guessed, when my aunt spoke with Julon, not only did he tell my aunt he wouldn’t be refunding her for the PT sessions, but he would have to charge her for ANOTHER PT session (3 total, so over $300), would freeze her account, and then when she took the PT sessions, she could THEN cancel her membership and PT membership. Never mind that my aunt may need hip replacement and/or spine surgery and is having trouble walking right now. Never mind that she’s retired and $300 for sessions she can’t even schedule has been taken from her. Never mind that she did everything right then was lied to by an employee who is no longer there (for, what it sounds like, similar issues). To me, it’s become very clear that despite being a gym, a place that preaches health and fitness are of the utmost importance, that this is not what Crunch stands for at all. To be clear, I don’t think they hire bad people but Crunch is not encouraging any values that put the customer first. I’m also looking through the reviews and see that other 1 star reviews are being told, with a copy/pasted message, to contact a “kylegm” email. This, to me, only speaks further to their lack of interest in caring for their customers. I will never be signing up with Crunch and will dissuade anyone I know (and you, internet surfers curious about Crunch) from ever going here. Don’t do it; it’s not worth it. Not worth your money, your time, or your health....
Read moreMy experience with Crunch. heard from a friend about them and looked them up online. Saw different membership levels and the price seemed pretty reasonable. Opted for the mid level where I could take a visitor along. Most of the way through the registration a page came up saying after 60 days a fee of 50ish dollars would be billed for annual. Was surprised to see that but was excited so kept going. After finishing I received an email saying welcome and to show up for the initial scan. The wife went with me to see what it was about. I got on the scale and got my scan. The young lady invited my wife to get on the scale to for a scan. Then we sat to discuss the results. The young lady said to the wife that she could benefit from some training. I said she wasn't signed as a member but she said that she could sign for training while being a visitor with me. We asked more than once if that would work and she said yes. She got excited and was going to sign up. We went to the desk and another young lady came over and said she couldnt do that, she had to be a member. Well she was excited about it and signed up for the lowest level membership of $9 dollars a month but a years requirement. After that the young lady pointed to a few of the machines I could use to help with my knee issues. We left. A day or so later I received another message from another gentleman saying welcome and to come in for my initial scan and introductory workout. I said I already had a scan but did not get an option for a workout. He replied back and said well you should have gotten a workout. I wasnt too happy about that and replied back about what happened to the wife with her being told that she could get workouts on my membership and then told not. Next thing we know her workouts were canceled and refunded. Didnt really like how this was working and decided to cancel before the 60 days came along to avoid the annual membership fee. Well during the cancelation online it said per cancelation policy, they had to charge the annual fee. So for the 7 days I thought about being I got charged the first months and the annual fee. Roughly $90 dollars for thinking about the place. Replied to the emails saying that I wasnt happy with that and the reply was that was policy and to talk to the front desk. I tried calling but could never go through. They called back in the middle of the day while I was at work and not able to answer. I called back again and could not talk to a person again. They again called when I was not able to answer at work. Their message said they tried to contact me many times but could not reach me. Meanwhile my wife is stuck with a years membership and she probably will never...
Read moreI have had 3 issues with this location.
1st I went there on a Friday to take a class during my lunch hour, there was no hot water. After I took a quick shower with cold water. I checked all the other 2 showers; they didn't have hot water either. I went to the front desk to let them know the girl I told she stated, "oh really oh okay I will let them know". and she just stood there didn't even try to find any management to let them know.
2nd I went on a Thursday after work to try to a new class keep in mind that we don't have this class in San Marcos. I was ready to workout. I made prior arrangements for my son to get a ride home from school, drank my pre-workout drink. I get there early as always to find out the instructor that was teaching the class cancelled it 7 mins before the class started. Also, to find out this instructor is new. The front desk didn't know nothing about it, not just that I got no email not text that it was cancelled. I was so upset. I left and drove to the San Marcos location to do a totally different workout on my own. I just wanted to voice my opinion in hopes it wouldn't happen, or to avoid last minute cancellations.
3rd I went this past Saturday. I booked 3 classes. My 1st 2 were great. But my friend wanted to join me for our last class because she wasn't able to get in. So, I asked the instructor, if she can join if there is room. The instructor stated "well, there is 20 student that booked the class, go ask the front if they allow it then its fine." I then went to go ask the front they gave me a class pass with no problem. I felt like this instructor could have said something different, not just that the class wasn't even full, and all the students didn't even show up. Then again, the location in San Marcos will always make room in the class. I put all that aside and still took the class. But I will not be taking this class again. To top everything off there was no restroom due to them overflowing as another person stated in their review. It was like we had to watch how much water we drank during our workouts.
This is a new location that just opened up and have all these issues already is crazy. I even heard bad things about this location after I guess I wanted to see if it was...
