Shawn's Computer Repairs — Local services in Lafayette

In around June of 2023, the screen of my laptop would display everything with a dark red tint on it, I brought my laptop here to have the screen replaced, and pretty much nothing ended up going right.

Originally, the only issue with the laptop when I brought it in was the screen color. But after Shawn’s Computer Repair tried to replace the screen, it became even more damaged. Now the laptop will not even turn on, more parts of it are broken, and repairing it would cost more than I paid for the computer.

The screen replacement took months, and it was hard to get in touch through both email and phone with Shawn for updates. He also accidentally broke the replacement screen, so I had to wait even longer for a new one to be ordered and installed.

While Shawn’s Computer Repair was in possession of the computer, its previously fully functional motherboard allegedly broke on its own by no fault of the repair shop. The computer would now not even turn on, and when I brought it in the only issue was that the screen displayed the wrong color. I was told I would have to help pay for repairs to the expensive motherboard which somehow broke in their shop, and worked just fine before I brought it in.

I was then told in January of 2024 by Shawn that he would order the motherboard. Then I asked about who would have to pay for it, since it broke while he was in possession the computer. An update on the motherboard came 4 months later in May, Shawn told me he never actually ordered it since I didn’t want to pay for the motherboard that I didn’t break.

He then kept insisting that it somehow broke on its own, and it was not his fault even though it broke while he had the computer in his shop.

“ I recognize this is not your fault but it's also not mine. The best I think I could do would be to meet you halfway on the cost of the motherboard. That's my only gesture I feel we can do.” -Shawn

I decided to just pick up the laptop and bring it to Microcenter in Denver for the motherboard repair, since I did not want to keep having to deal with Shawn and his business. After picking it up, I noticed that the screen Shawn’s Computer Repair eventually installed was not fully attached, and the webcam was completely missing. Shawn offered to take the computer back and look at the screen, but I did not want to risk my computer being even more damaged by him or his team.

A quote I got from microcenter to fix the improperly installed replacement screen, missing webcam, and broken motherboard totaled more than the original cost of the computer. (I paid $1000 for the laptop, repairs would cost $1142)

This whole process took over a year (~June 2023 - August 2024) due to Shawn sometimes completely ignoring my emails for months at a time, and all the issues of parts “breaking on their own”. This is by far the worst business I have ever been to of any kind. I would give Shawn’s Computer Repair zero stars if I could, but unfortunately Google reviews has a minimum of one star. I have seriously considered taking Shawn to small claims court. My $1000 laptop is now useless and cheaper to...

Shawn's computers helped turn my machine around! I was having consistent problem where the computer would lock up not allowing me to move forward with work. Checking the task manager I could see that my memory was consistently at 100% which was crippling my system. I called Shawn's who were very responsive. They came to my office within a day. They found that the problem was more aggressive then what they could fix on-site so they took the machine back to their space. I gave him a budget and said if he could fix it for that price, he had a deal. I made that limit because if the price escalated then I might as well get a new machine! Shawn respected our budget finding a solution that worked for us both. I had my computer back promptly and now its consistently working better. The memory is sitting at 78% right now and hasn't approached 90% since Shawn returned it. Because of his good work refurbishing my computer I save at least $500 on a new machine....

I don't write many reviews but I felt compelled to let the public know about our experience at Shawn's Computer Repairs. We took a laptop to Shawn for a screen repair. He estimated the repair to be $300. He had the computer for 2 weeks. When WE contacted him for an update, he stated the wrong part had been ordered and it would be a couple more weeks. Eventually, we went to get the laptop back. Shawn was extremely rude stating that he found it amusing that we thought we knew more about computers than he did. Twenty minutes later, he emerged with the laptop. Unfortunately, we didn't look it over until we got home. That's when we noticed the screen was now cracked, had glue dripping down the side and a wire sticking out. We took it to a national computer repair shop. They noted the glue and the wire sticking out and offered to fix these items at no additional cost. We got the laptop back in 2 weeks paying half what Shawn quoted. ...
