My fiancee took a 1/4 carat diamond 14k gold ring in for a simple appraisal (a present from me). Was not planning on pawning it. Was told from 'knowledgable' salesman it was fake diamonds on gold plated silver. Keep in mind I purchased the ring from a very reputable highly known jeweler within the previous month. Was offered $35 for ring for weight only. She explained that she only wanted an appraisal and not to sell or pawn. Ive done buisness here many times before and thought they were fair and honest. NOT THIS TIME AT ALL!! To give benefit of doubt, we took the ring to 3 other places to test and get an appraisal. Two nearby pawnshops and a competing jeweler. All stated gold ring and diamonds were real and gave appraisal between $850- $1100. Pawn Express needs to either retrain all employees, keep unknowedgable employees away from jewelry, or they will lose a lot of jewelry buisness. (Then again had i sold the ring for $35, that would have been a huge profit for them). Not this time!!
Edit... Went to visit the pawn shop same day within hours of review. The lady at the register knew me right away and shocked me by asking whom I spoke with about the ring. I dont go in too often but was shocked when recognized. Seems if she actually took a care in whom I spoke with about the ring. I told her it was actually my fiancee who brought the ring in from a concern of hers. I wrote the review based on all the trouble the appraisal of theirs brought us. (But was relieved later as stated). Due to her concern and caring, as well as all previous dealings with Pawn Express, Im upgrading the overall review. Not 5 stars yet, but no longer a 1.
Update I noticed Pawn Express responded to my original review and did NOT do like most other places and that is to blame the customer. This goes a long way to building and keeping repeat customers. For that you are now a 4 star business. (still keeping the last star for the worrying we did, sorry). I know they are not in the business of giving appraisals. We wanted to know if everything was good with the ring before the 60 day return window closed at the jeweler. Maybe it was a bad battery in the tester. Who knows??? Thanks Pawn Express for being friendly about this...
Read moreI've been a Pawn Express customer for several years. That alone should speak to the quality of the business. You just don't walk away from customer service and great deals like they have.
The merchandise - I've bought guns, jewelry, lawn maintenance equipment, coins and hand tools. I've been satisfied with the condition of everything I've bought from them(and in many cases much more than satisfied).
Values - The pricing on the merchandise is competitive and often just amazing. I have shopped a lot of venues, online, person to person and in store and I have found that I can rarely find a better bargain or finagle a better deal that I find at Pawn Express.
The staff - What a great bunch. I've never seen them treat anyone rudely even though I've certainly been there when someone deserved it. No, perhaps even more than the super deals, it is just great to go in and see the folks who have become friends.
I guess I'd have to say that they have hit on a great business model. Between the great people and awesome deals I've spent more money in Pawn Express than any other store I shop in.
