This is mostly about the service or lack there of. I was not assisted at all, wasnât greeted, was not even acknowledged until I went to pay. Mind you, this is not a large store so it takes maximal effort to not greet or approach a customer in this very tiny space. I had to find the things I was looking for on my own, which took awhile as all the labeling and signs are very tiny with not great font imo. I circled the tiny store 4-5 times with no assistance, not a single person thought that a person circling and reading the signs multiple times would needed assistance, I would say that it was my mistake assuming that an employee sitting at the register on her phone would offer assistance when there was only 3 people in the store and I was one of them and the others were all receiving unsolicited assistance from the other employee; multiple others (a couple, and my own friend) were helped with ease. I was absolutely willing to wait for help but none ever materialized. There was only one difference between my self and the others was âşď¸. (I have noticed with other reviewers like me, this is not isolated)
There were two employees, one who helped those people and not me and another who was sitting at the register on her phone. She only got off her phone when I went up the counter with the candy I found on my own after 5-10 minutes searching on my own (I was looking for the viral Swedish candy which they had limited supply of and was tucked away in the corner, not worth the money or the lack of service). I was so confused and disappointed by the service that I paid and left, waited outside while my friend continued shopping in there with their assistance. The treatment was just so bizarre for a local store/candy store.
Regarding the candy: they had minimal unique candy that you wouldnât find in the checkout like at TJ Maxx and of what there was that was even somewhat unique, the prices were incredibly inflated. I still canât get over the fact that they sell store and other company branded candy in their labeled bags at 3x what you would pay at any other store (ie rebagging nerds clusters in their âAmyâs candyâ branded bags with half the amount and twice the price)
I truly wish it was a better experience, I was really looking forward to coming here after seeing it online but the service is enough for me not to return and the products are up to your decisions but for me just not worth the below avg service. It was...
Read moreChicago has some amazing small businesses but one of our favorites is Amy's Candy Bar. We have shopped here for years, ever since Amy opened this shop. She has an amazing collection of candies from a number of sources, as well as Ice Cream Shoppe ice creams from Wisconsin (if you love chocolate, order a Zanzibar shake -- you will thank me later). Also, check out Amy's delicious assortments of store-made caramels. Amy's also has an assorted of chocolate candies (the chocolate coated pomegranates are scruptious).
The pièce de rÊsistance, however, are the artisinal candy bars Amy created. My favorite is her OMG bar. It is incredibly delicious--sea salt caramel with rich chocolate ganache are layed with hazelnut pralines spacked with hazelnuts prepared four different ways for just enough and finally coated in a decadent Belgian dark chocolate. We even had her make half-size ones to give out to guests at our wedding and we got raves over how good they taste. If you are not a fan of dark chocolate, then I recommend Amy's YUM bar. It is shortbread with sea salt caramel and toasted pecans, and coated in Belgian milk chocolate. Really delicious!
Do yourself a favor, and visit Amy. She and her staff will help you pick out tasty treats for gifts or for you to enjoy. And, don't forget to add an OMG bar to your order. You will be...
