Heights Meat Market Clearwater — Local services in Largo

• EDIT: The company they ship through is from Postmates and they have no control of the delivery. Changing my review. The Clearwater location manager reached out to me personally and was very well-spoken and apologetic. I hope to soon visit this store and hopefully make this my go-to for meats.

DO NOT ORDER ONLINE FOR DELIVERY IF YOU LIVE IN AN APARTMENT. I was looking for a high quality beef butcher shop close to where I live and came across Heights. I ordered the A5 wagyu and spent around $250. I can’t speak for how the experience was in-store but, I get off of work at 6pm and they close before then.

I figured I would get it delivered at the latest time they had to make sure the meat wasn’t sitting around before I got home. I live in a gated apartment complex and in the notes, I added my gate code and to call the code to get through the gate in order to get to my apartment and my direct phone number in case there were any issues if they got lost.

I got notified via text that the order was about to deliver and I was expecting a phone call just in case the delivery driver called to get through the gate. However, I didn’t receive a call. I figured that the driver was able to get through the gates like how USPS or Amazon gets through the gate.

It wasn’t until I checked on the order since I didn’t receive a text when it was delivered so I tracked the order and there was a picture uploaded and I saw that the driver went to the leasing office and put my order next to the leasing office sign on the floor before it was about to rain. Thankfully, I saw it and grabbed it before it started raining.

All in all, the meat was good and priced well. However, it left a bad taste in my mouth seeing that someone would leave raw meat outside on the floor in a black plastic bag without even contacting me for delivery instructions even though I listed it on the delivery notes. NEVER AGAIN!!! I was craving lamb shanks but could not find them anywhere so I swallowed my pride (and concern over my grocery budget) and got two Osso Buco style lamb shanks at Heights, which I have always found seriously overpriced. While I can normally find them at various grocery providers for $6-7 a pound, I paid an outrageous $29 a pound for these because they were BOGO. Now I know why. They were absolutely horrible. I have cooked lamb my entire life and eaten it all over the world but I have never tasted anything this awful. I’m not sure what it was but it was gamey and tasted nothing like lamb, even left a nasty taste in my mouth. I ate these shanks on two separate occasions and they were the same weird, off flavor. The second one (yesterday) I vomited the entire dinner even though I couldn’t eat it all. I will never buy anything from this overpriced sham of a business again. I called the Tampa location of Heights meat market and supposedly spoke with the owner. I asked her specifically do you sell organic pork chops? Her reply was yes we do. I asked her if they had a location in Pinellas county she said yes and Clearwater. So I went to the Clearwater location and spoke with David who told me he was the owner, I asked him to his face. Do you sell organic pork chops? His reply was yes. I bought two tomahawk pork chops that he told me were definitely organic. He even went so far to say as well. It says organic on the box. I had my wife call him the next day and ask him. Did they sell any organic meat? he said we do not sell any organic meat at all. I have read all the reviews and they are great reviews.
