My wife was looking for a PC laptop that she could donate to a Somali refugee who is starting school at SLCC in January 2020. It needed to include basic functionality -- word processing, spreadsheet, internet connectivity -- and be inexpensive. I told her I knee just the place -- GCB Computers! Bernadette, GCBs daughter, showed us a few models within my wife's price range and explained their hardware specs and the software included in them. We selected a PC laptop for $100 that had plenty of capability for a newbie's use. This is the 2nd computer we've purchased from GCB Computers. We bought Dad a laptop with all the bells and whistles for Father's Day 2019 and Dad has been very pleased with it! GCB Computers has plenty of laptop and desktop computers to choose from in all kinds of price ranges -- from the type we purchased (i5 core, 120GB SSD) to gaming desktops (i7 core, 2TB SSD). I'm of the opinion that the equipment at GCB are just as capable as a brand new piece of equipment from any big box retailer or computer store. The installed software may be older (MS Office 2007), as well as the hardware (equipment from 1 or 2 generations back), but the OS software is updated (Windows 10) and I think GCB refurbishes them with new, fresh components. Machines that would've cost several hundred dollars from back in the day are offered at a fraction of the cost by GCB Computers and are just as capable now as they were then. Budget-minded consumers will definitely find a machine to fit their need here! Please note that ALL SALES ARE FINAL and WARRANTIES ARE NOT AVAILABLE, but if you know what you want, then you can't go wrong. George and his staff are very responsive to text msgs and their new location at 863 W Gordon Ave in Layton is easy to access -- right off I-15. We traveled from Sandy to purchase both machines and we'll definitely travel again when we need another machine. Check out GCB Computers -- you won't be...
Read moreIf I could give under a one star review I would. We stopped by the retail shop in Layton and the employee was extremely sweet and attentive. We purchased a part and my nefew asked about parts for a computer. She explained to us that the retail store is more "Already built, ready to go, whole computers." However, she looked up the part on her computer and directed us to call the service center. We thanked her and left the store. When my nefew called the number on the door the owner answered. This is where the problem started. He was extremely rude, biting my nefew's head off, raising his voice, and was extremely unprofessional all the way around. Bear in mind, my nefew is over the age of 20 and very well versed in computer parts, as he builds them from the ground up. The owner snapped at him, insinuated my newfew was a liar when my nefew apologized and let him know it had been the employee who had directed us to call by saying, "No she didn't! She knows we don't sell those parts here! She did not tell you to call! How did you get this number?" When it was literally posted on their front door. All my nefew asked was if they carried graphics cards and if they carried motherboards. I cannot believe an owner would be so unprofessional to a new customer that would have been back for one of the computers they had. Sir, you lost out on a customer that would have returned many, many times.
Edit for reply: My nefew only asked about it once more to clarify after the first time. It was the graphics card she looked up on Google and told us she wasn't sure and to make the call because "The service center has a lot more of the parts and things you're looking for." She didn't tell us there were "Very limited parts." Infact she made it sound like there were a ton of parts. You may want to clarify with her exactly what your service center has so she doesn't end up having people "Bothering" you when...
Read moreI want to say I knew GCB when they first started in their home. In their garage area. The daughter was kind and they did the best they could. They were helpful and willing to work with you. They were tiny but mighty. Now sadly it seems the other way around. Since they bought their new store they seem way standoffish and aloof. They always keep the front door locked and someone has to let you in. And they hover I we you like you will steal something. The last two time I went in it was dead inside. No customers, no workers. Just Thomas. Last time I went in I spent 30 minutes trying to make a purchase. I am not tech savvy so I wanted to make the best choice possible. Things were not well explained to me. It felt uncomfortable 🥵😣. I was also told all sales final. No returns ever. And no gaurantees. So if I bought a system and it broke I was outta luck. When I called back the owner George wasn't kind. He got mad I wasted Thomas's time and was upset at me. He said some not nice things and I hung up. Which has me puzzled. They went from a family owned business focused on customer service to being about the money it seems. They have no tech support and it is worrisome they sell used computer's that could break anytime and they won't stand behind their work. That's just no good business. They may be cheap but you take a risk. If it breaks your in trouble. I would say go somewhere else. Or they need to focus on costumer service and rethink how they...
