What a great experience. I'm so glad we (me and two sons) took our basic rider (motorcycle license) course from Lone Star Bikers.
They teach the course within the requirements of the state, but they make sure to make it a positive experience all around, start to finish.
The instructor makes the class laid back and enjoyable. Even the classroom part was enjoyable (a real accomplishment since it's essentially driver's ed/defensive driving).
Once we were out on the range it was "silly amounts of fun" (one of our instructor's catch phrases 😉). There's no hurrying, no "drill sergeant" grilling. The instructors are knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely enjoy helping. The feedback during the driving exercises was always useful and easy to apply, and helped us improve quickly.
I was concerned about the fact that we were learning on manual transmission motorcycles. But it was a non-issue. The well-designed curriculum and the great instruction got us going with engaging the gears and driving and moving on to technique very quickly.
My sons and I couldn't fit the typical schedule of courses at any of the local schools. I contacted a few through their websites and Carrie, the owner of Lone Star Bikers, responded almost immediately and made room in her personal schedule to accommodate our request -- and she still only charged us the regular class price even though I was expecting (and had said I was willing) to pay higher "private lessons" pricing.
So thanks again Carrie for your help and genuine kindness, and I look forward to coming back for an intermediate course...
Read moreCarrie is a phenomenal instructor & a bike enthusiast; I couldn’t have asked for a more dedicated & kind instructor. I’ll attend her next beginner class & her intermediate class after that. Her class was time well spent for me & Drew did an excellent job as well—great job buddy!
Taking a step back, I am not experienced; frankly, I’m was at a 0% talent, 0% confidence & 0% experience, when I walked in on day one. Carrie gave me the extra training that I needed & maintained a solid pace for everyone else. Her balance of care juggled across the whole class made the time pass quickly, even in the rain; her passion for riding is infectious & her skilled nature to teach touched on every concern that I had. I didn’t have to voice my concerns; she triaged my woes at every step & provided the exercises to remedy my inability & frustration. Time & time again, I was given the coaching needed through positive reinforcement. A genuine talent of her caliber, with a passion for the sport & abundance of empathy, was beyond my expectations. When the course was over on day 2, I can honestly say that I have skills & capabilities to begin a very safe & long journey ahead of me. I couldn’t ask for more.
Thank you Carrie & Drew, thank you.
For the thrill nuts & the riders born on a bike, needless to say, Carrie will refine your techniques & give you the best experience possible. Her toolbox of skills caters to everyone. The whole class walked away beaming & thankful—time...
Read moreFirst and foremost I want to say I rarely, if ever, leave a review for a business. But this course was absolutely something else, and the instructors who worked with me deserve a definite shout-out. As a brand new rider with no prior experience, I had my reservations and anxiety about trusting my safety on a piece of heavy machinery to some strangers I have never met before. However, not only was I quickly reassured and put at ease, but the coaches here are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. Shout out to Carrie, who took time and scheduled a good chunk out of her day, in freezing weather, to help me through every sticking point that I had, and not once did I felt rushed, so that I can continue to be successful in the course. Another special shout-out to coach Mark as well. Not only did he meet his students in 20 degrees weather, and meticulously set up each exercise while we as his students sat in our warm cars (did I mention this was in 20 degrees weather?) Furthermore, coach Mark did not allow the weather or the external circumstances affect his coaching or his level of attention he gives to his students. Overall, at every turn, you can definitely see the passion these coaches have to teaching and ensuring your safety not only on the course, but later on as well. If you are like me at all, and you have any reservations or nervousness about riding at all, I would trust these guys to help...
