My favorite thing about this place is their display of loose Marvel Legends and Marvel Universe figures. If you're into Marvel, Star Wars, He-Man, TMNT, and other trendy/mainstream domestic "collectibles" this is a fun place to visit. Lots of stuff is clearly displayed, labelled, and priced. They also have bootleg Lego mini-figures, which my son likes. There's the obligatory wall of Funko Pops in the back if you're not sick of those lifeless eyeballs yet. You can dig through the hangar wall and find some carded figures from the 90's and early 2000's, which is neat, and there is a good selection of recent releases from Marvel Legends and Star Wars. (If you missed a recent Walgreens/Target/Hasbro exclusive: try this place.) Import toys are almost non-existent here.
Prices are all over the place; they want almost $400 for a ToyBiz Galactus BAF which is currently around $130-$200 on eBay. A loose import toy was priced just $6 below its current cost new from Amazon, and they wouldn't budge on the price or trade, even though I was offering them almost 100% more than what I estimate they paid. (Mark-up seems to be 200%.) They could have made space in the cabinet, kept cash in the drawer, and inherited my box of stuff for a single figure -- almost 100% profit with extra stock -- but somehow declined. Fair enough; it's their stuff, so I took the cash.
(Expect to leave your stuff to sell at least overnight if it's more than one item.)
After they offered me a price for my box of things: I pulled a couple of individual items out to ask what they were worth; one item hadn't even been priced, so if I hadn't pulled it out and asked: they would not have paid me for it. Most of the other offers were totally fair though, but I think no up-front cash/trade difference is a missed opportunity.
If you have boutique, small-run, "art" toys or imports to sell: you're better off selling them yourself. The same goes for outside-of-mainstream collectibles; you're better off on eBay. Maybe I was just going at the wrong times, but I felt like the people who work there regularly don't have their own collections, and don't follow collectible news, so don't go in expecting to geek-out about new releases, obscure gems, imports, boutique/art toys, or convention exclusives. (I found few/no Mythic Legions, Boss Fight, Mezco, Sideshow, or Mafex figures, for example.)
Overall I'm glad places like this exist, and definitely support your local business by selling them collectibles (to me it's worth the financial loss for convenience, to have them stay open and manage/display the toys) but don't expect to go in and have your mind blown if you're into any collectibles you couldn't previously buy at Walgreens or Target.
Definitely pop-in to check out the great displays, and they'll usually give you a decent offer for your...
Read moreWe took part of my husband's collection 3 differenr times. The first time we made a deal with the owner Jeff, decent fair offer. The second time my husband took another figure and Jeff was hands off. He left it to be managed by a black haired lady. Her offer was really low and again we needed the money, but this time we said no to her low ball offer. She tried to negotiate a little, but still super low so we decided to go. The 3rd time we took 2 expensive 1/6 scale diecast iron man figures worth around $800 for both. This time she asked us to leave the figures with her so she could look them over. Couple days later she calls us and says we can't make a deal. We go to pick them up and she tells meus that the large figure has scratches and scuff marks all over it. I told her to show us. She opens it and points to paint that is suppose to make the figure appear worn and battle damaged. It's an iron man figure, it's supposed to look that way. My husband explains this to her and she just says that the store doesn't want it and she seems very dismissive. We didnt even think to open and check the 2nd figure. Anyway when we got home my husband puts the figures on the shelf in the garage for storage. 1 year later my husband finds an interested buyer for the 2nd iron man figure that we never thoght to check after we picked up both figures from Jeff's Collectible Emoire. He takes the figure out of the box and the iron man's arm falls off. It appears as if the figure was dropped. Explains why she was so dismissive and tried to break the deal off. No way I can go back a year later and ask her for compensation. Now I'm just stuck with a broken figure. Stay away from this business...
Read moreJeff's has become my go-to place to sell pieces from my collection. I am constantly pruning and changing out my figures and collectables. I used to use Ebay, but their fees have become so high, and with the cost of packing and shipping, I calculated that I actually receive about half of what I ask for on average. At Jeff's, knowing they are a business and are looking to sell what I sell them, they have consistently honored by asking prices, which honestly have not been too much less than what I would make after all the fees and shipping costs, etc. of selling online. I find it much easier and less stressful to just take my collection to Jeff's over going through the hassle of selling on Ebay. There have been very rare times we did not come to agreements on price, but there have been many more times we have, and every interaction has been respectful and honest. I've had some bad experiences at other nearby retro shops, but I find Jeff's to be an honest and respectful business. And I am always comfortable saying no if I don't agree with a price, though it has only ever happened once, and we since came to a deal on the items in question some months later. As a buyer, I appreciate that they take the time to make their vintage products clean and presentable, whereas other stores just throw whatever junk they find as-is onto their shelves. As a collector, it's not difficult to determine how Jeff's is calculating their prices, and they are always fair in regard to going rates. Donna and her crew are so friendly and it's nice just to spend time there, whether I buy something or not. Thank you for your friendliness, integrity, and always making me feel at home! I am happy to be a regular...
