I promised Madi I would so here we go! Ok let me start by saying YOU NEED TO JOIN!! (Helping Emily Out) But seriously since I first walked in to take my first free class and was greeted by Lilly I knew there was something special about this place! I remember it was a Saturday class with Sai being the instructor and let me tell you at first I was totally scared that I was about to die! I've always been into sports playing soccer in my youth for over 10 years but then life hit after high school got married had children and well, I was put aside. I think all parents usually do until something hits them and you say, "To give my family the best me I need to fell the best me" and prior to joining ill be honest I didn't fell the best version of me. After gaining so much weight from the pregnancies (Dad's have cravings and we gain weight too) to not being motivated to do anything! Prior to having kids my wife and I where pretty active working out regularly either going to regular gym or even taking a few CrossFit classes and I remember prior to working from home I would drive out to Glenda where our office was at and I remember downstairs they opened up this thing called Orange Theory and everyone said the classes were extremely hard, you should only go if you are active and can keep up. So, when I made the decision to put me first and my health I challenged myself and said I am going to go to OTF. So, that first class was amazing I felt accomplished because I actually finished and no pressure to join by Lilly she just said well just let us know. Now part 2 of my journey beings! I remember deciding ok I am joining, called and was greeted by Emily on the phone took my info and signed me up and after that call I said, " I am attending class today" and the rest was history! OTF is really place where you are safe not matter what fitness journey you are on either starting or a trainer you belong and you can do it! All the staff, Emily, Lilly, Sam, Madi and the rest are truly amazing! Something I realized when I went back and they already knew my name! It feels like home, I feel motivated. ALL THE TRAINERS are amazing! I started going mainly in the evening since it was summer time and my wife and oldest son are out of school. Mckenzie and Andy are amazing! Mackenzies energy makes you want to work out and grove out and Andy well lets say he always pushed me to add more weight to my reps (I'll be back in the summer) so shout to the evening crew you guys started my journey! Now to my 5am and Saturday either 6:00am (90m 3g) or my 11:05 (2g) with Jen, you guys have given me back my confidence, Sai, Keila, Alex and Jen thank you for pushing me to be the best me. Alex honestly give me a tip (slant board) you all need one TRUST! I made me prepare better for class, Keila is the best great energy we all need at 5am and Sai always motivating to add .1 or .2 to our runs and Jen I always enjoy going to those 2G classes because I know I am going to work! Bailey I have not had the privilege to attend one of your classes but I have seen you bring it in our 5am classes so I know you are truly amazing as well! I love OTF Lakewood you are truly family to me! I don't mind standing outside with Emily to get more people to join this amazing family and Sam she's my advocate thank you for taking suggesting and bringing to the table. If youāve ever considered taking a class, I canāt recommend it enough. These HIIT workouts have been such a fun challenge, both mentally and physically. You get to push yourself at your own pace, but thereās no better feeling than hitting those small goals you set for yourself. Not only do I feel stronger, but Iāve also never felt more confident in my own skin. Itās an experience I donāt think I could find anywhere else.
Beyond the workouts, I love the personal connections Iāve made here. Iāve grown especially close to Coach Jenāsheās truly an incredible coach. She not only pushes you to be your best but also genuinely cares. She remembers the little things you tell her, and that level of thoughtfulness makes such a difference. Sheās been such a huge part of my fitness journey, and Iām so grateful for her!
And then thereās Coach Keilaāif you want to feel like youāre at the club while getting your workout in, take her class! Seriously, she brings the best energy, and itās always a party. Just be ready to have a good time!
If youāre on the fence about trying a class, just go for it! You might end up loving it as much as I do. I've been attending Orangetheory Fitness Long Beach - Lakewood for a while now, and the entire experience - from the coaches to the front desk staff - creates such a welcoming and motivating environment to workout in!
When I first started, the classes were challenging for me, especially since I had never taken HIIT classes before. It was definitely an adjustment, but over time, Iāve seen real progress! Not only do I feel stronger, I can also see the physical changes in my body. I know I wouldnāt have gotten this far without the incredible staff!
I have two main coaches I love taking class with: Coach Jen and Coach Keila.
Coach Jen is absolutely incredible! She is super motivating; even when Iām doubting myself, she knows exactly how to push me to reach my full potential. I love how helpful Jen is when it comes to correcting form and make sure weāre okay. She has such a positive presence and Iām always excited to see her! (But donāt complain in front of her or she will make you lift heavier weightsā¦I had to learn that the hard way hahaha!)
Coach Keila is just as amazing! She brings such a fun energy to every class that she teaches. I love how fun she is to joke around with; we have great banter hahaha. She's also incredibly helpful when it comes to correcting form and answering any questions! It's always a good time in her class. If youāre lucky, sheāll even show you her surprisingly good dance moves!
But please no one take their class, I would like to keep them to myself and I donāt want to share them :) Just kidding, you should absolutely take their classes!
Also, a big shout-out to the amazing front desk team: Emily, Madi, Sam, and Darla! They are always so welcoming and friendly. Theyāre super supportive and engaging every time I see them. They make each visit feel a bit more special and I truly appreciate that!

Ā Ā Ā Read morejoining orange theory was one of the best decisions i've ever made. i started out doing the 8x/month plan and enjoyed it so much, i upgraded to unlimited! i've been here more than a year and going to class has truly been a highlight to my day. orange theory gave me the direction and motivation i needed to make positive changes in my life. i was surrounded by like minded people who gave me the push to be better and live ALL OUT ;) the coaches and staff have helped me find the strength to challenge myself in what i didn't think was possible. if you asked me a year ago if i could row 2000 m or run 3 miles, i would be like you're joking but with time, i was able to achieve all that! (trust, im a serious couch potato) every class is at your own pace but if a coach feels, you can do more.. don't underestimate yourself cause YOU CAN! (i'm still shy but they're always great at encouraging) it's truly a mental battle and each class is hard but you'll be glad that you did it! there is a great support system in the staff and the people you meet! they greet you with a smile, really get to know you to build a relationship, and are your biggest cheerleaders. shout out to you ALLLLLL! you're forever my faves! ^__^
in addition:
facilities - clean and well maintained. bathrooms are stocked. you also get a wipe after each station. hand sanitizers are available and easily accessible.
price - i say fair. they have great plans. the late class fee will motivate you to go. lol. you can plan up to 30 days in advance and cancel 8 hours prior to avoid a fee. this has made me so accountable in planning my gym days.
app - user friendly. shop, plan, and keep track of all your stats in one. it's nice to see how many classes you've done or if you hit a PR then the staff can celebrate you which is always fun. who doesn't love to hold up a brag board?!
heart rate monitor - not needed but good to have. it really pushes you during class to see where you're at.
classes are fun and different every time. you go through the whole room - rower, weights, tread. intimidating at first but again, do what is comfortable by you. coaches will always be there for the assist and motivation! music played by the coaches are great and getting your song request put in is also a plus. they have monthly challenges and benchmarks which makes you aware of where you're at with your fitness.
location - pros: easy to find. cons: tempted by the food/shopping in the area.
parking can be hard but recommend coming like 10 minutes before class for some closer spots. am classes def have first dibs on great parking.
all in all, OTF can't be beat. it's rewarding, it's challenging, it's fun! OTF LBX IS HOME!
