The best part of my experience was that all of the employees I dealt with at The Peddler were friendly and helpful despite being clearly over worked due to the season.
I ordered a new hybrid online which required some assembly. Once together, the gears and brake needed fine tuning. I took it to The Peddler, told them I just needed fine tuning of the brakes and gears and nothing else. They told me "well, it's going to be 2 weeks before we can do it." I was perfectly fine with that and so I left my bike with them.
Two weeks later, I called to check and found that it was ready. Once in the shop, one of the employees retrieved my bike, and informed me that the price would be $85. I politely explained to the employee exactly what I mentioned in the previous paragraph and asked to talk to a manager (which turned out to be the owner). Again, I politely explained the situation and was told "well, I can take $5 off." I told him fine, I'll pay it because what choice do I have, but that would mean that I wouldn't be coming back. At that point, he LOST HIS MIND. He said "just take the F'ing (he used the full word) bike and get out." I told him that I'd be happy to pay a fair price but was told "get the F out." I was stunned, and I said "wow, you're nuts," to which he replied "go F yourself."
I have never been treated so unprofessionally, and I will be strongly suggesting to anyone interested in my opinion to take their business elsewhere.
To top it off, as I rode it home I realized that the gears STILL weren't adjusted correctly and the chain rubbed against the front...
Read moreVery disappointed with this shop. I bought my bike from them many years ago. Bike needed a tune-up, possibly new tire (was in storage for a long time). Went to pickup the bike, asked if there's any notes on the condition - no. Kickstand was not functioning, asked about that, they agreed to try and fix it which they did, and offer to replace it (I declined). Just surprised that they were returning it not working. No information on the receipt -- nothing circled - wrong color written in. Someone wrote a note on 'tell her don't' -- called next day about it, was told that is not on the original, someone must have written on top of my receipt for someone else. Minor stuff, but shows careless attitude. Much of my receipt has double writing. Would have liked to get some comments on the overall condition for $85 worth of service. One positive - woman who called me when bike ready was very helpful in trying to get me info on bike hitches, and made some good recommendations (UHaul). She was great. Beyond all this, no one in the shop wears a mask during the pandemic either day I was there - says a lot...
Read moreWalked into the shop on Friday 5/11. Looked around for 25 minutes before I could get any help or service. When I finally did, I decided on a specialized rockhopper expert. Was told that it would take 3 business days to arrive and a couple days more after that until it was ready. Since my hope was to have it by memorial day weekend so that seemed reasonable and I left a deposit. Was told they would call me when it came in or if anything changed.
The following week passed so Friday 5/19 I decided to call to see if there was a problem. Was told this time my bike just came in and it would just be ready in a few days. Considering they're open 7 days a week, I called again Today 5/22 hoping for an update, and NOW am told it wont be ready until next week.
It is now unclear when if ever I will get my bike and am very disappointed with their...
