Sheriff / Bailiff Robert Wells of Stanley Mosk Courthouse is extremely rude, condescending, and possibly xenophobic against people of Asian descent.
During what I hope to be my first and last trip to this forsaken location, Bailiff Robert Wells
singled me and my mother out in a courthouse full of people murmuring amongst each other and even a family coming in with a baby making noises that we were making more noise than anybody else. He then took me outside and
decided it was his job to chastise me for not having my documents in order despite being given directions by the clerk to go ahead and make copies of documents for submission to the judge
intimidated me by belittling the state of my readiness, telling me how ill-prepared I was to go before the judge and that she was a stickler for this and that.
4)Told me " he wasn't a lawyer so that I cannot give you legal advice". Which is fine because nobody had asked you for advice anyway.
Expecting someone to understand everything about court is run perfectly on the first day is kind of a lot. Unfortunately, Bailiff Robert Wells lacks any sort of empathy or sense of understanding.
Guess what. Everything ended up fine, and even the judge had no issue with what we had submitted as evidence.
Bailiff Robert Wells felt the need like it was in his right to speak rudely to somebody over absolutely nothing. Imagine having so much to say about nothing at all.
Shame on you Robert Wells. Learn to treat...
Read moreThis is the central courthouse in downtown Los Angeles. It is an older courthouse, but is part of the Los Angeles Civic Center and is adjacent to the Civic Center Plaza. Literally thousands and thousands of people visit and work at the courthouse every day, and things run remarkably well.
The location is accessible with a subway station right across the street, and a nice park area with fountains on the other side of the building in the Civic Center Plaza. There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance. If you have to park, however, be prepared to pay at least $12 or more if you want to park closer.
Inside, there are both elevators and escalators to assist you in getting to where you need to go. There is a large clerk's office and many staff at the entrance who are able to tell you where you need to go. This is also the location for the Restraining Order Center, which is designed to help unrepresented people obtain restraining orders if they need one.
Also, a hidden secret of this location is the cafeteria on the top floor, which offers pretty cool views of the surrounding downtown area, including a unique perspective on the Walt Disney Concert Hall, which is diagonally across the street.
Unfortunately a lot of people have negative associations with the courts (jury duty, tickets, criminal cases) and have rated this location poorly, but I know from experience that they could do far, far...
Read moreThe Stanley Courthouse is one of the most corrupt courthouses I have ever encountered. In my experience, it consistently disregards mandated laws, fails to consider judicial rulings, and outright ignores facts and evidence. The judges there seem indifferentânot only to the law but also to the emotions, rights, and voices of self-represented litigants (pro per). If you are representing yourself, expect to be treated with contempt, as though your legal knowledge and evidence are irrelevant, no matter how valid or well-prepared your case may be.
The culture of disregard at the Stanley Courthouse appears deeply entrenched and alarmingly close to the corporate influence found in nearby Beverly Hills. This proximity seems to encourage decisions that are more politically or financially motivated than rooted in justice.
If you are scheduled to appear at the Stanley or Metropolitan courthouses, I strongly recommend requesting a change of venue. These courts demonstrate a blatant lack of respect for due process, especially towards pro per litigants. If they do happen to rule in your favor, itâs likely only because they cannot avoid exposing themselves to a lawsuit.
Simply put, justice is not what you will find at the Stanley Courthouse. Shockingly, you might even encounter more fairness in a courtroom run by Donald Trump than in that building. Avoid it...
