I am deeply upset by the treatment my mother received at this store. While patiently waiting in the pick-up line, the clerk completely disregarded her and helped another customer. My mother, who knew exactly where she was, didn’t say anything and continued to wait. When the clerk finally acknowledged her, she rudely and unnecessarily stated, “This is only for pick up,” assuming that my mother—who is Indian and an English speaking U.S. citizen—didn't understand where she was supposed to be.
The assumption made by the clerk based solely on my mother's appearance is a blatant act of racial profiling. Such behavior is unacceptable in any establishment, and this is not the first time something like this has happened. We’ve been shopping at this store for over 14 years. It's disheartening that the staff would make such assumptions without any cause, simply because of my mother’s race.
This kind of racial profiling is not only offensive and hurtful, but it may also have legal ramifications. Under civil rights and anti-discrimination laws, treating a customer differently because of their race, national origin, or “perceived” language barrier is unlawful. Especially when we are all English speaking citizens. This store needs to address its discriminatory practices before further legal consequences arise.
To make matters worse, the store offered my mother a $10 gift card as if that token gesture could make up for the disrespect and humiliation she endured. This is not an acceptable response to discrimination.
I sincerely hope that management takes this issue seriously and implements proper staff training to ensure that all customers—regardless of race or background—are treated with respect...

Read moreI took my 78 year old mom and brother to the Macy's at Westfield mall for a little black Friday shopping. We had just purchased some earrings and were looking for a coat. Mom asked one of the sales people where she could find one... She asked in English at first and they didn't understand her.. It's not her first language. She then asked in Spanish and was totally made to feel embarrassed when one the sales persons loudly and rudley exclaimed “No one speak Spanish here!!” I felt so bad for mom as she shrunk in embarrassment and tried to ask in broken English, but the woman just glared at her and didn't help. My brother intervened and hugged mom and asked again where we could find the coats. The sales person immediatlety changed her demeanor when she saw she wasnt alone. One of The sales ladies at the jewelry dept at Macys on topanga canyon is rude and prejudiced against spanish speakers. She knows who she is and I hope the rest of the sales people there arent like that. She was awful to my mom and hopefully doesnt represent the...
