Please don’t go here. I usually never leave reviews at all, even when I’ve had bad experiences, but this experience was so bad that I’m crying everyday. I have my own nails, but it took me a long time to strengthen and grow them. Now what I do is get a gel manicure with builder gel underneath, where the apex of my nail is stronger so my real nails don’t bend or break.
The first time I saw Tina, she was amazing. I’ve had some places quickly put a layer of builder gel on my nail, and it didn’t really do much in the long run, but here, Tina took her time and did 2 coats of the builder gel, one finger at a time and I loved my nails. My nails never broke, were so strong, and grew even longer, and I was so happy.
The issue was when I went back to her the second time. She uses the electric filer to take off the rest of the gel nail polish, but I could see it thinning my nail a bit and it felt sensitive. I made it clear I want builder gel again, which she tried to talk me out of because of the multiple coats I was thinking of getting (chrome on top of FCAT) but I told her I don’t mind a bit thicker nails, if anything I prefer the sturdiness.
She put 2 coats of the builder on my nails taking her time very well, and when I’d try to look she’d scold me a bit saying that I end up twisting my nail a bit and it ruins her process so to be courteous, I stopped looking and trusted her completely with the process. But after the builder gel was on, she took out the ELECTRIC FILE AGAIN and she FILED IT ALL DOWN.
My heart started to sink but in my head I thought, she’s a professional, maybe it got too bulky, maybe she’s just evening it out. And I was scared to bend my finger to look at it again because I didn’t want her to scold me. I was mostly in shock and disbelief because there’s no way she’d file away the builder after she took so much time to put it on.
But she kept filing my right hand nails after the builder over and over with that electric filer way more than the left hand and my nail beds felt a bit sore. I felt horrified.
The FCAT color we ended up doing (no extra chrome on top) was beautiful but from the side, where the apex of your nail is supposed to stick out just a bit (ESPECIALLY AFTER BUILDER GEL) was instead super thin and DENTED. I wanted to cry but I just tipped and left.
And now my nail beds feel still sore a few days later, and my nails are BENDING AT THE DENT. I can’t put my sheets on my bed because even slight pressure bends my nails completely and I’ve cried so many times.
Oh and by the way I let her know that I was getting it done for my birthday in a few days.
And like yeah I’ve had bad experiences here and there before but never have I put in work to strengthen my nail, only to have it weakened not only by her gel removal technique, but also paid for builder gel, and had my time wasted while she’s slowly putting it on, only to literally have it all filed away to a point where my nails feel even weaker than before she got started with putting on that builder gel.
So please do yourself a favor and don’t go here, or if you do, know the proper techniques for gel removal and builder gel application, like do your research and know already, so if they do stuff to mess up your nails, you know to tell them no and stop. Because I didn’t, and instead I trusted my nail tech Tina and now I’m crying a couple days before my birthday over nails that bend so easy and might break over basic...
Read moreI usually get regular pedicures at Sugar Nails as it is close and usually have s short wait time for walk-ins for a simple mani or pedi. I occasionally treat myself to extensions/acrylics for special events. I did actually walk in for this service, and there was about a 10 min. wait, WELL worth it! Tina is a TRUE professional. We discussed nail shape, I was sure I wanted almond, so that was easy. I was unsure on length, so we she pulled out assorted sized so we could compare. I chose a medium Gel X. I wanted something that had a mermaid feel to it, but not not a green or blue. This chrome finish was perfect, she used a pale white base polish, with a GW19 and GW20 (if memory serves) alternating to give my nails a mother of pearl look which I LOVE!! Minus the 10 minute wait at the start(which again, is all on me as I did not make an appointment, I was a walk-in)from start to finish the service took 1 hour and 5 mins. While Tina is not a super chatty Nail Tech, she is a TRUE talent, and is very good an intuiting what you are looking for. She was very gentle, and when she could sense my hands were tensing up(I have anxiety) she would tell me what to expect, ie - I would feel heat when the UV light was applied to fix the nails in place. When I was undecided on the chrome color, she suggested we just do both as one was a pink(warm tone) and one was a blue(cool tone). The images I included were taken on day 10 of wear, AFTER being at San Diego Comic Con for a week of that 10 days. No chipping, no jagged edges, the nails look NEW and they have been run thru packing, unpacking, travel, costume changes, outdoor activities, swimming, exercise, late nights, etc. I did do some after care, such as cleaning under the nails daily and moisturizing at least twice a day, but the nails hold up really well. I did have them shorted a little once I was back from vacation and they were a little longer than I normally wear. But the nails are still going strong and looking beautiful. I normally can't wait to take off nails as I am used to much shorter natural nails, but these are some well done I am enjoying them while they last. The price point was just right for the work put into them. I always have a good experience at Sugar Nails, but this was such a stand out, I had to review. If you are looking for a great nail tech, I can not sing Tina's praises loud enough. Honestly anyone on the team is great and you can't find a...
Read moreI've been getting my nails done here for about 6 months now. I've had serious issues finding a nail place in Los Angeles that can actually do a quality set of acrylics which last 2+ weeks. I've been coming back to Sugar Nails because I found Erin who is amazing at giving you the shape you want and is great at nail art. She also gave me her personal number for any time I have issues with my nails which was great.
I'm giving them 3 stars because I've never had a set of nails last me until I needed a fill. I usually make sure to get one every 2 weeks, but I usually start to see lifting or I'll lose a nail within 1 week of my appointment. They also charge me $5.00 every single time I need to come in and get my nails fixed, even if I had come in a couple days prior to have them done. From my own experiences, usually if you get a set of nails done and they break within a reasonable amount of time, the salon should fix it free of cost. I've had about 2 full sets of nails and 4 fills done at sugar nails and none have lasted more than 1 week with out breakage or lifting. They have never repaired my nails with out charging me, even if I come in 2-3 days after my appointment. I don't work a hands on job where I'm causing breakage myself by being too rough on my nails. I work from home at a computer most days so there's no reason my nails shouldn't...
