Whitt's Wood Yard — Local services in Los Angeles

I have been using Whitt's for years -- over 15 -- and have found them to be honest, capable, efficient, trustworthy and helpful. Their attitude is always, "what can I do for you," and their delivery guys are great. The wood is properly and quickly stacked, and the man who delivers for us, Herman, is terrific -- and has been for more than a decade!

The guy who gave a one-star review for the size of the wood is, frankly, a bit of a dope -- the wood is cut to a standard fire-place length and that size has varied not one inch over the many years I have used them. If they do not fit in his fireplace, I suggest he has a goofy fireplace, not that the wood is the "wrong" size. And what exactly did you expect Whitt's to do, cut the wood individually for you AFTER IT HAD BEEN DELIVERED? If you have an odd-sized fireplace, you should have asked first. One of my neighbors has a wood burning BBQ and he gets his wood split thinner for the device...but he asks; he doesn't wait for it to show up and complain it is the wrong size, when he knows he needs it cut specially for him....

Anyway, I digress -- just feel the review was preposterous, given the great service I and my neighbors have gotten from Whitt's over the many years we have...

I walked up to get a couple of pieces of wood. Waited in line behind some cars. I was finally helped and I asked for a couple pieces for a camping trip and they said they only sell by the cart. I should've asked one of their customer for a free piece they probably would've given me one given there's mountains of wood.

In the end, I was just bluntly turned away. I felt after waiting and having spent time to get there and walking up, service should have...

Steve was really helpful. In this day and age it is rare to find old school customer service...especially in something like buying fire wood! They came highly recommended by my neighborhood online group and have to say they live up to the hype. I got a 1/4 cord mix of almond and walnut. Steve was very helpful in helping me select the right wood for us. Looking forward to our cozy fires over...
