I have always loved Hobby Lobby. Never had an issue with any employees and check out has always been pleasant, until last Thursday evening. I took a friend of mine to HL who had never had the pleasure of shopping there until that night. We had the greatest time looking at everything, I enjoyed seeing her face light up every few minutes and tried to even remember my first time shopping there. We go to check out and everything seemed to take a turn downhill. Our cashier looked tired, which is understandable, it's a busy time for them, it was about an hour away from closing time, and for all we know she could be having personal problems. So, we both were kind to her, she was stone faced and each time she rung up an item, even the smallest thing, she would ask if we wanted it in a bag. Some of these things were rolls of ribbon, individual ornaments, and other items that have always been placed in shopping bags when purchased. Still though we were kind in our responses to her. Her voice was cold and monotone, she said, 'thank you, y'all have a great night" without looking up and in the tone that you would use to tell someone that their family member died. As we were leaving and in the parking lot, we were commenting about that whole checkout experience and the woman who had apparently checked out same time we did but at a different register overheard us and she told us that her cashier acted as though she had just lost her entire family and that she was unfriendly during the entire checkout. Read moreLet me just say that in the past I have had very good customer service from this store. . . And that is the reason why this review has a 2 star rating instead of a 1 star. I went at a not busy hour to try to find bookends. I have looked in Wal-Mart, Ross, Marshall's, and Kirklands, not finding anything. So I figured I'd pop into Hobby Lobby. . . My mistake. When I walked in I was greeted. That was the end of any customer service. I walked the whole store twice, hunting for bookends that would suit my purposes, and at least 4 times had employees rushing by or stocking near me. No "Can I help you find something ma'am?" Or "Finding everything alright? ". Just short glances. I understand that there are tasks to be performed, I am a retail manager so I understand that. I know there are days when you don't feel like being as cheery as usual. But even in my hectic moments at work, I will stop and ask if customers need assistance. Like I said, this is the first negative experience I have ever had at this hobby lobby, but it will also probably be my last. Irritated to the point that if I had found the perfect bookends at the end of my shopping experience I probably wouldn't have gotten them, I was wondering if I would have been finally asked if I found everything ok as I walked out or wished a good day. Read moreI've been a regular at this Hobby Lobby for over five years, but I can't give it more than three stars due to ongoing issues with their customer service.
Despite my frequent visits, I've consistently found myself overlooked upon entering the store. While others are greeted warmly, I'm often left without acknowledgment until I leave. Additionally, getting assistance is like pulling teeth—I've had to actively hunt down staff for help, and even then, their willingness to assist has been lacking. It's frustrating to witness other customers receiving better treatment while I struggle to get the same level of service.
I hope my feedback prompts improvements in their customer service standards, ensuring equal treatment for all patrons. Moving forward, I'll be taking my business to the Athens, Georgia location, where I hope for a better experience.
While Hobby Lobby does offer an extensive selection, particularly in jewelry making, I believe excellent customer service is just as important. As a small business owner, I appreciate a comprehensive selection and good deals, but not at the expense of feeling undervalued as a customer.
