Been a customer of this store for many years. And starting with the criticisms, yes, they do often sell "expired" or close to expiring stuff...but they sticker it as "past date" and that's EXACTLY one one the reasons I go there! The values can be SO incredible if you are not opposed to checking the dates on the deeply discounted items. I mean, why pay $4 for an item when you can get the same item that needs to be cooked or frozen in 2 days for $1!? As for expired?..... I have NEVER purchased things from the Madison Heights store that I feel that the manager wouldn't feed their own family. Get educated people. Expiration dates can be VERY subjective. And EXPIRATION dates vs BEST BY dates are VERY different.
As for their regular stock, yes, sometimes they (as a Spartan store) are more expensive than say Kroger, but sometimes it's the opposite! As I don't mind shopping a couple of times a week - even in this pandemic - I go to 3 stores primarily. I know each of their prices, forte's and shop accordingly.
As far as staff, never had an issue until some of the best players are MIA due to the Corona virus.
So far, I have NO reason to not continue to be a customer! ...
Read moreValue center has good prices overall; and quality seems to be near as good as Kroger's. Only reason I give 4 stars is because many of their sales, such as 5 for $5 and similar are on expired items. If you don't pay attention, you might go home with something old-er than you care for. Some things are not as big an issue as others. Store is clean, associates are friendly and helpful. Husband prefers Value Center over Krogers. I lean towards health food store for certain items. UPDATE: 8-15-18. I'm not changing star value. However, I'd like it to be known that we recently purchased toothpaste and didn't notice until we got around to opening the box to use it, that the expiration was Sept of 2017. Hmmmm. It wasn't a sale item either. Also, the last few times we purchased produce, it went bad 2 days later. We use to go through food similarly with Farmer Jack's (when they were open) and we stopped buying produce from them and some deli items. I will stop buying these items from Value Center as well. Fruit hasn't been an issue. Eat the produce you buy, on the day you bought it. And check expiration dates of everything if it...
Read moreI've been shopping at Value Center Marketplace for many years. But I've always shopped at their Waterford Store. Thanksgiving was just around the corner, and I saw some really good sales on line. To my surprise, I saw these sales only applied to their store in Madison Hts. Up until this point, I was not aware that VC markets rotated their sales from one store to another. So, if you see a sale on something you want. Make sure that item is on sale at the store you want to visit. Or end up like me, traveling from one side of town to the other side just to save a few bucks. This time it worked out for me, 'cause I needed to make that trip cross town anyway.
On a happy note, I gave that store five stars. Reason being. I was just as pleased with the service at the Madison Hts. store; as much as the store I shop at...
