The Shawshank Trail Self-Guided Driving Tour — Local services in Mansfield

This was great ! I've lived in Lexington all my life (right outside of Mansfield, Ohio). Shawshank redemption was a good movie , but a lot of people forget that 'Tango and Cash' with Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell was also filmed at the old Mansfield reformatory.

I remember back in the day when they built the new reformatory , and finally left the old one vacant. It was after that that Hollywood caught wind of it and began filming in it !

My mother was a lifelong LPN at Lexington Court nursing home in Lexington ,Ohio.

I remember growing up in my teens and being told by my Mom that the makers of Tango & Cash had contacted her workplace as well as others in the area asking for interested nurses to participate as set nurses during the making of the movie.

She met Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell both (and has some very interesting pictures from the set to prove it to) !!!!

Also , btw .... Sylvester Stallone's 2019 movie 'Escape Plan : The Extractors' is filmed in Mansfield, Ohio , as well as many scenes shot in the old...

The prison itself is intimidating and amazing. Took about 2 hours on self-tour. Great staff and really friendly and fun to speak with. However, we also did the movie scene trail which was a lot of fun. Almost like a scavenger hunt! We pulled up clips of the movie to match the sites while taking a drive and exploring Mansfield. All of the sites are clearly marked, and maps are available in paper as well as online. Took an afternoon because we stopped at other interesting places along the way, but was a lot of fun and informative. I suggest this as a great day...

I had an awakening because of the massive amounts of steel used to imprison people. Life in prison would not be any kind of escape. The self guided tour with the tutorial on my phone allowed our group to hear and see interesting things that described prison life for inmates and staff.
