LOST MY RING Sadly, I must say my experience at Paramount Jewelers was disappointing. I dropped off a family ring to be engraved for our wedding, a gold men’s wedding band (which we are using as my fiancé’s ring in our wedding next week). I was told it would be finished in a few days. 3 weeks went by and I did not hear from them, so I called. The person on the phone had a difficult time locating my order, and once he found the receipt slip, he put me on hold. He came back on the line to tell me the engraving had not been completed yet, because the ring had fallen on the ground “in between the shelf and the wall” and they hadn’t realized it. He literally said, “I’m glad you called because we wouldn’t have known this was here!” He said they’d have it done in a few hours and we hung up. I went to pick it up this afternoon and expressed my concern about them charging me the full amount after what had happened. The staff was kind and went to get the manager. He asked if I was unhappy with the engraving, to which I said no. I clarified that I was concerned with how this was handled and that it should be corrected, either discounted or covered. He replied, “I can take that ring to the back and buff off the engraving if you’re so unhappy.” It was incredibly rude and disrespectful. Ultimately I paid and left with the ring. I understand mistakes happen but I did not even get an apology; and it’s not about the money (it was only $45), but the principle of how this was handled. My partner and I met Jill when we went to get a family engagement ring resized; along with new prong work and a quick resizing, the ring was clean and ready to go at the timeline and cost discussed. During the initial meeting where we discussed resizing the ring, Jill also took a few links out of my oversized watch for free… Mind you, we didn’t have to pay for the ring until it was finished, so we paid nothing that day! Jill also helped us find a wedding ring to stack beneath the engagement ring - her expertise was so helpful as the shape of the engagement ring is unique - we found the perfect ring at a price we loved, and Jill made it feel like the ring was ours all along! She even reserved the ring while we were briefly out of town. Upon our return to take the wedding ring home, we also had some fantastic gooey butter cake treats from her coworker. As I began browsing, I was in search of a women’s style Bulova, resembling the Bulova watch I currently have. After noticing a large difference in Bulova’s price on their website and Paramount prices, I’d asked for the best price. After being given that, I declined to purchase. As I walked out, Paul, an older gentleman whom I remembered from my childhood visits, looked me in the eyes and thanked me for not purchasing and supporting small businesses. Although I may be a different shopper than my father (Millennial vs Baby Boomer), I will always remember Paul’s snarky comments as I headed out the door. Although I didn’t purchase that day, for me, you’ve ruined the chance of gaining any of my business. One thing that will never change, is word of mouth being the best form of advertisement.
