Moral of the story: communicate prices of gifts and/or use every single Kohl’s cash coupon!
I’m, admittedly, not a super frequent shopper of Kohl’s but I have a friend who raves about the Kohl’s cash so I’ve been trying to shop there more to see what all the fuss is about. Sure, the Kohl’s cash is nice — but I also realize that it’s a marketing scheme to get people back in the doors. Give them a $15 Kohl’s cash coupon and they will spend another $50. I understand the capitalism aspect of that. I understand the competitive marketing that stores need to get people to come and spend more money. I’m definitely not anti marketing — but don’t be sneaky and sly about it.
On Black Friday I had a specific item I was watching for my daughter. Kohl’s had the best price that I could find other than Amazon, who had it for $10 cheaper but it seemed like less of a hassle to just go on Black Friday to get it rather than have to order it and wait for it to arrive. Unbenounced to me, on Black Friday, Kohl’s was offering $15 in Kohl’s cash for every $50 you spent. I made my purchase and got a $60 Kohl’s cash coupon to use beginning November 26th? and expiring I think a week later. While I do like the Kohl’s cash, I am a busy person. Very often my Kohl’s cash ends up expiring before I am able to get back to the store for shopping so while it was nice to have that, I wasn’t super excited about it since I wasn’t sure I would get back in time to use it, anyway. And really— how often does that happen? How many Kohl’s cash coupons get forgotten about in a purse or stuck on the fridge to get tossed out after expiration?
My daughter ended up being dissatisfied with the item I got her and wanted to exchange it for a different kind that she had been researching. I was glad she was honest with me instead of just flushing $240 down the drain so I gladly gave her the gift receipt to return. Luckily we had communicated previously how much I had originally spent because when she got to the store to exchange it, they were only going to give her $180 value for it. She called me from the return counter because she knew something wasn’t right. No one would give her a straight answer as to why it was $60 less than I paid and then I put two and two together. They were deducting my Kohl’s cash — a coupon that they offered to competitively get people in their store that day— a coupon that how many people never get the chance to even use while it expires in their wallets — from the back end of the purchase! I am completely livid! I understand they need to recoup their money somehow — but figure something else out rather than short changing someone for a coupon that may never even get used! And this on an exchange not even a direct return! So she came and got the original receipt from me and my stupid Kohl’s cash so that she could be given the full value of what I paid. Kohl’s can take their Kohl’s cash and shove it where the sun doesn’t shine from now on as I will not be shopping there after this. This is a sly, tricky, slick used car salesman type of a maneuver as far as I’m concerned. Sure it would be great in a perfect world if every Kohl’s cash coupon got used like it should — but this is how they make their money, by banking on those coupons that expire and never get used while taking the value of them off the returns and exchanges that people give as gifts and probably don’t even know the wiser because people typically don’t discuss how much the item originally cost. I don’t have respect for stores that recoup their money through slick marketing maneuvers. I will stick to Younkers, Target, Shopko other stores who — while you have to read the exclusions very closely on their coupons, atleast you know that your future coupon isn’t being deducted from what you paid for people’s gifts.
My daughter would like me to add that the sales associate was very helpful and friendly. This review isn’t directed at them, I thank them for all they do — this review is directed at the corporate marketing...
Read moreOne of the employees (female, mid to late 20's, blond) working at 8:00pm 7/21/18 was being extremely rude and unprofessional to me and my boyfriend's family. She was asking unnecessary questions such as "why are you buying two of these?" and "why do you want two transactions?" I am white and was never asked these questions when I did the exact same thing. My boyfriend's family is from India, so I think the employee racially profiled them. The store manager came over and did nothing to help the situation. This is absolutely uncalled for and rather unnerving, and very hurtful. I won't ever be returning to this store ever again. Kohls should be ashamed for hiring such discriminatory and...

Children left unchecked screaming pulling clothes down, parents stepping over this. Kids in door way running back and forth ,doors opening and closing continuously. Nope not coming here again. Could be abused at Walmart for same quality, lower prices. But you know close and put another food venue in its ...
