It's tough to say enough good things about this gem of a bookshop.
We were visiting Massachusetts family for Christmas and wanted to gift everyone in the family with a book on Christmas Eve. In order to make this happen, we had stopped at 3 (!) different big-box bookstores on our way up from Virginia, and were still only halfway through our 10 person gift list.
And on the 23rd we discovered Market Street Books. The selection is curated, and the staff has excellent taste. Instead of scouring the shelves to find something acceptable, I was suddenly finding excellent books everywhere and was juggling books into my husband's arms, trying to decide which excellent title I should give the remaining family members. Christmas eve book giving was a huge success, and I returned after the holiday to pick up some new titles for myself. The staff was happy to make recommendations for my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had searched on maps for "magazines near me" and Market Street Bookstore at Mashpee Commons came up first. My mother and I are both handicapped and use rollaters to help us walk. This store is NOT handicapped friendly. We worked our way through the little shop but couldn't find any magazines. I stopped at the checkout desk to ask about magazines and how I had found this store. She said they didn't have magazines and got upset that she (her store) didn't know she was on the internet. She became rude towards us as I tried to explain how I found her store. We left in a hurry before she got any madder. Obviously I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSemi-small selection catering to sci fi readers and young adult/fantasy. A good amount of Cape Cod writers, as well. To be expected from a little local store. I went in (against my personal moral policy)15 minutes before they closed and asked about the Chronicles of Narnia. The clerk was not only helpful, but enthusiastic that someone was asking about a classic and willing to put down the money for it. In perspective, that entire full-illustrated series in a hardcover case was less than any new video game from the company which shall not be N-amed. Even if it's book-tok sourced, I'm glad some people...
