Toured for a few hours on June 15th '21 with Captain Woody and Michelle and could not have been happier with the entire trip from the beginning (booking) to the end (stepping off the boat at dock). The three of us in my family - two teens and an adult - had snorkeled around Maui in a few of the places that are well known (and are on the Snorkel Bob's list). None of those experiences came close to what we saw with Woody. Isolated but safe, we saw some of the most pristine, healthy and colorful reefs Maui has to offer - all by ourselves. The diversity of fish and coral can hardly be described and will remain family memories forever. We swam with a pod of 5 turtles who were completely unfazed by our presence and seemed almost curious about us, looking at us while they foraged for food; we found ourselves mesmerized in the middle of at least 5 schools of fish as they swam by and around us; we even saw a small white tipped reef shark from a very safe distance. If you know about these beloved sharks, you know they are not at all aggressive and are a sign of a truly healthy reef ecosystem: that's the kind of habitat that Woody and crew will bring you to. Forget the shoreline and trying to get past the break at the usual places packed with tourists. Spend the extra money to witness first hand the magical ocean habitat that is Maui's legacy and treasure. Book a trip in advance - he is often booked up by those repeat clients in the know - and look forward to memories that will last you a lifetime. I cannot more highly recommend Woody as your Maui boat captain.
One last note: as one of the last family-run boating operations on Maui, Woody makes you feel like you are part of his family: he's taking you to places only the locals know and can access. Unlike the commercial charters where you are one of dozens of clients on the same trip - this...
Read moreMy family booked a charter with Captain Woody and it was a special experience. Woody & his 1st made Mikayah (sp?) took absolutely wonderful care of my 10 yo son who had never really been in the ocean before and had never been in a motor boat.
Mikayah watched my son carefully to make sure he didn't get too cold and helped point out all sorts of tropical fish and sea turtles.
Woody made sure my kid got to sit on the front of the boat to feel the wind in his face, the salty spray of the ocean, and have amazing views of Lanai and Molokai as we traveled to our 2nd snorkeling spot.
Woody and my son trolled for Marlin and Woody let my son help steer the boat.
Finally, Mikayah spotted a pod of Humpback whales in the distance and Woody piloted the boat closer so we could see a whale slap fight and Woody used a hydrophone so we could hear the whales communicating.
I can't overstate how special this experience was for all of us. The attention and care paid to the youngest in our group was phenomenal. Additionally, Woody & Mikayah did their absolute best to make sure we saw and did everything we wanted.
I highly recommend for anyone that wants their own...
Read moreThis was our first time in Maui. We wanted to see and do it all. At first I reserved all sorts of excursions (snorkeling, whale watching) on big boats with lots of people, but then I came across Captain Woody’s website of “doing a little bit of everything” on his own boat with just your family. I canceled all my other reservations and booked him, and did Captain Woody and his side kick Captain Makiya deliver!!! We were greeted by cool, laid back, friendly captains who took us to all the spots- before other people (and their massive boats with lots of people) got there! He shared stories of the islands and surroundings and made sure we had a great time! We swam with Sea Turtles, saw humpback whales and coral reefs! I will recommend him to everyone I know!! Thank you...
