Met a 16 year old Hawaiian man up the mountain road that lead to the dead end at the coffee plantation: Kakaalaneo Drive has a great view of the waters of Moku Ho'oniki, Moloka'i below. He was parked with a 6 month old puppy on a leash an a girl with a 3 foot high glass bong. He had on a flowered shirt and a surf board company logo on his hat, with a styling pair of board shorts.
We pulled up in front of the two cars and got out to look at the bay. "Nice bong" I yelled, smiling. "What?" "Nice bong" I yelled louder, smiling and leaning down to pet his dog. He laughed nervously. I told him I had a woodworker son from Vermont, and those guys craft some massive instruments. He realized I was harmless and I asked him some questions.
"Where's a cool place to get some water shoes and some sun shirts?" I asked. "HIC, dude, down in the mall off Front Street, lots of shops and and I like HIC. Cool people and good stuff." I thanked him and he flashed me a Shaka which I returned.
Found a spot and spent almost an hour in the store. Gavin is a terrific man, and told me there were less expensive water shoes that were just as good as the ones I had selected. He suggested sale items and helped my wife find sizes. I bought useful beach stuff and cool souvenir t-shirts for my kids
These are really cool people, they have a great selection and expert product knowledge. When they didn't have Croakies for my wife's sunglasses, Gavin started to call other stores. A customer offered his, saying he had just gotten two pair at work and didn't need the one he was giving her.
Highest recommendation. I will be coming back again...
Read moreJust left this shop (11/7/18) at 12:30 pm because literally no one greeted me. The two clerks were talking at the register and couldn’t be bothered to acknowledge my existence. I was ready to drop some serious money here, as I am here on a work trip from the Big Island. I even walked right by the register and one guy looked up but not so much as a hello or even a smile. I am a friendly person and always smile and say hi at least! Terrible attitude from your shops employees. I shop at the Hilo store and the staff is soooo friendly. Look into your staffing, you need to coach and train...
Read moreMy son is taking surf lessons so I was looking to buy him a board. My friends in Kihei said I needed to go to the Cannery Mall store, so did and boy, were they right! Gavin was super helpful and explained all the options to me since I am just trying to help my son even though I know nothing. Gavin was super patient and knowledgeable about product as well as surfing. He got me a great deal on a 8’ board and even helped load it in my truck. So helpful! Fantastic customer service! Worth the...
