Today was my first time visiting this establishment. I was pleasantly surprised at the selection as they carried my favorite wine (that is typically only carried at big name grocers).... that is where the pleasantries end.
I rang up my items and was asked for my I.d. (Up until now none of the 4 customers before me were asked, although it is the law). I had my credit card in my hand but mistakingly left my I.d. with my partner in the car. I apologized and went to retrieve my I.d. With one foot out the door, I hear the clerk snidely remark "yea great, come in a liquor store with out your I.d."
I continued outside to grab my i.d and asked my partner to come help carry the items (since I had over 6 fifth size bottles).
When I returned I apologized AGAIN and she rolls her eyes while saying "don't worry about it". I politely told her there was no reason to be rude or make smart comments over a simple mistake.
The clerk acts as if she doesn't know what I'm talking about and when I repeated what she said- she immediately starts screaming and acting sporadically telling us to get out of "her" store. I asked for a manager or owner and she refused to provide any information. Still screaming, flailing her arms and telling us the owner doesn't care or want to talk to us because she is the "best worker" there and threatens to call the police. As the clerk speaks to the police, it becomes increasingly obvious this entire ordeal is racially motivated (on the clerks' and police dispatchers end - the dispatcher immediately asks if we're black ---- not for a description, not what race- just if we're black).
Finally, the other clerk offers us a card with the information we requested (all the while being calm and pleasant) while her co-worker continually rants and screams. Other customers offered us solice as we calmly waited for the police.
The police didn't offer a remedy we hoped for and we faced no adverse action because we had done nothing wrong.
We hope to speak with the owner tomorrow, but I doubt anything beyond the removal of this employee will remedy this issue or prompt us to...
Read moreFirst time going to this store. I should have read the review concerning their obvious racial bias. My husband and I are a mixed couple. The two clerks were very disrespectful and obviously were not trained in how to provide good customer service. The male clerk actually rolled his eyes at me and said "next time you should ask for help if you cant find what you're looking for". When I responded that we did ask for help the female clerk jumped in and challenged me by asking "when did you ask for help?". When responding to both of them and, raising my tone because they were both overtalking me, she then said "why are you yelling at me?" Very disappointing experience and obviously we wont return. Its disheartening that such obvious bias still...
