Rude Staff. I've been to several locations across the country in several different states and this location has the most unfriendly unwelcoming staff by far. For my personal experience: I had my 3 kids 3 and under there with me and my husband had to go back into the main part of the store for something we forgot while the kids and I waited for our food (I'm posting under my husband's account because that's what is signed in at the moment). I noticed that every table was taken and I had a cart full of groceries. I was watching the tables like a hawk waiting for someone to decide they were done on their phone and stand up, but that never happened. I was actively looking and hoping that someone would finish and stand up, it is very hard to feed 3 hungry toddlers without a table. So since no tables were available, I plopped my kids up on the bagging station of register 1. We were out of the way and my kids were getting to eat. When my husband left, a man named Cameron came up to me and said "You can't have your kids up there, you have to move. Our members' food goes there, and they have their feet all over it". Yes, that is a quote, yes, that is exactly how he spoke to me after waiting for my husband to leave. After taking about 10 seconds to compose what I WANTED to say because my children were there, I simply said "okay" and I turned around to see that thankfully someone had left and there was a table open. So I did my best to get 3 kids across the traffic of everyone trying to leave the building (If you've been there, you know how hard it is to cross from one side to the other through the endless stream of people). This "man" works in CUSTOMER SERVICE. He had to pass the empty table on his way to berate me. A much better way to approach that would have been "excuse me, I see you couldn't find a table, but there is one that opened up right over there, can I do anything to help you move to the open table"? It's not hard to show human decency. The manager then came over, (Angie?) listened to my situation and offered to get us ice cream, which I politely declined. I don't want a freebie. I want your staff to respect people. In addition to the outrageous incident above, I have felt unwelcome by most of the staff most of the time. They are not friendly when greeting you, or serving you, or helping you find something... I thought I was crazy until I started talking to other people in my community.
I was having an unrelated conversation with someone I know, and I asked her which Costco she was talking about (we were talking about the disability scooters), and she said "oh, right... yeah, I drive the extra 10 minutes to Hudson, I don't like the staff at Mayfield". Which sparked a conversation that lead me to believe that I was not, in fact crazy. So I started asking the other people I know, and as it turns out my neighbor also chooses to drive further, to Hudson, for the same reasons. These conversations happened AFTER I had already started driving to Hudson myself to go to their Costco.
I've also witnessed another incident where a staff member rudely interrupted a woman trying to parent several small children to tell this woman to get her kids under control.
So not only are we talking about unfriendly staff, but potentially targeting women who are alone with small children.
Absolutely unacceptable. Train your staff...
Read moreWe are moving to the area, so we went ahead and got a membership since it will replace our normal shopping place, Sam's Club. For a Wednesday night after 7pm it was pretty busy. We had a small wait to complete our membership purchase but nothing too long. We went ahead and walked through trying to get a feel for the layout and comparing products to what we are used to at Sam's Club. Everything seemed pretty good. Look forward to further shopping after our move is complete.
**Update: Now that we've settled in and unpacked, we have been made a few trips in. Due to a mishap in our move, we even bought a couch and had it delivered quickly.
One thing I haven't figured out and something that I really miss from Sam's Club was the ability to order on line and then do curb side pickup. I work nights, so it was very easy to order before going to work and then pick up my order at 7am after work the next morning. That would be a great service if Costco has this. "Update October 2024. Still satisfied with our trips. Always seem to find something I didn't know I needed.
With that said, here's the funny thing, Sam's Club is now offering free delivery (with limitations and the upgraded membership) from the Oakwood Village location to my house, so I'm doing that more than going into the Costco. *Update 1/13/25. Monday morning around 10:30am, the place is packed. Our visit was about 30 minutes in and out. Had just about everything we wanted, but will have to shop at the grocery store for a few smaller items. Read morePurchased a membership at Hudson and bought quite a bit of Ohio State swag. One of the sizes I needed they did not have so I decided to go to the Mayfield Costco to see if I could exchange the size I bought.
First off it is a disaster/nightmare trying to get to this location due to the traffic and rude drivers.
I went into to see if they had a different size and the older rude women checking membership cards told me I am not allowed to take in the bag and sweatshirt that was in it. She said I had to return it. I said I am not retuning I am keeping if they do not have the size I need. I asked who could keep this bag for a moment while I run in to see if they had another size. She kept saying I cannot keep a bag you need to go to customer service to return the item you have, another person not listening to what I was saying. Go to customer service same issue with the guy working. Finally a woman working could see I was upset and said I will make an exception and hold it for you. I ran into the store and back in two minutes flat. Now was that so difficult people? I went back to customer service got my bag and cancelled my membership. Done Done and Done with Costco! Never liked that store from the moment...
