TL;DR: We waited 45 minutes for bland, tasteless food when there was barely any customers in the restaurant; would not go back.
My wife and I had an appointment in the area, so we decided to go to Scramblers for a quick lunch. We arrived a little after noon and there were a handful of tables seated; the waitress was near the kitchen and acknowledged us, but took about five minutes to actually come over to the hostess booth and seat us.
When we were seated, we could see that all but one table had been served and the final table was served before our drinks arrived. My wife ordered the Traditional Eggs Benny with a side of bacon and I ordered the Chicken and Waffles. We conversed for a while until we were interrupted by a different waitress asking for our order! We told her the other waitress took it fifteen minutes ago! We were worried at this point that the order wasn't even entered
Another 15 minutes went by and we were starting to get antsy since we had an appointment at 1 PM and it had already been around 30 or 40 minutes; however, there was no waitress around now, nor had one been to our table since, and instead, we just heard loud conversation about dating and relationships coming from the kitchen twenty or thirty feet away!
Another five or ten minutes passed and still no waitress although we had glimpses of people moving in the kitchen and heard conversation actually relating to our order like "Do you have the side of bacon?" and "The fries are coming for this?". A few minutes later, we finally were served and the waitress apologized for the delay stating that it was due to a malfunctioning waffle maker. I immediately asked for the check and boxes since we had an appointment in 10 minutes; the waitress came back after a minute or two with the check and asked if we needed boxes; I replied with a simple "Yes", but my mind said (1) "I already asked for them!", (2) "Did you think I was going to eat this whole meal in five minutes", and (3) "Did you think I was going to leave three-quarters of my meal that I wasn't able to eat in those five minutes?". The meals were discounted with a 15% senior discount (we are not seniors and would not be mistaken for seniors) and we were not charged for the drinks due to the wait; the waitress brought back the boxes and the merchant copy of the receipt. The waitress again apologized, but I also overheard (it was said quite loudly) her say to the other waitress that "The waffles were 86-ed yesterday" making me wonder why they didn't confirm that the waffle maker was working properly that day!
The meals overall were mediocre. My wife's eggs benedict were bland and her hash browns were swimming in so much oil that a pool of it was left on the plate when they were boxed. My chicken and waffles were also bland as well as the side of French Fries.
There was really nothing about the experience that would make me ever consider going back: poor service, long wait, and bland,...
Read moreIn a big city like Cleveland it is really hard to stand out. Scramblers, to my surprise, stood out. It is at this scramblers that I received the worst service I have ever received in Cleveland Ohio. We were greeted at the front by a very nice server who I quite frankly wish was our server. We were sat with another server who, to put it simply, should not be a server. At first we chalked up her lack of eye contact, dismissiveness, and quietness as being a bit awkward. Not a problem, doesn’t mean you can’t serve. However being brought a dirty coffee cup then acting like replacing it was an inconvenience when she gave it to us in the first place, bringing out the wrong food and having to be reminded, completely forgetting an item all together and not checking back on us until the meal was nearly complete changed our perspective. It is not awkwardness, it is a complete lack of caring. I was brought bacon and over easy eggs when I ordered sausage and scrambled eggs. I assumed it was an error in the kitchen, but after the five minutes it took her to come back to the table I told her I received the wrong items. She grabbed it, without apologizing which she didn’t do for bringing us a filthy coffee cup either, brought it back to the kitchen and immediately brought out the correct sides. Meaning even though she only had 3 tables, two of which were already eating, she could not bother to actually check if the food she was bringing to her guests were correct. When she came back with the right sides she immediately left the table and headed back into the kitchen. I assumed she was going to grab my hash browns. She instead did not return until we were done with our meals. I asked for my hash browns. She gave a slight nod and walked back into the kitchen. I received my hash browns five minutes after that when food was already done so I asked her for a box. No apology, no sense of urgency, and quite frankly a server who did not care at all. The food was solid, but I’d rather go to Denny’s next time because I can get the same items with much...
Read moreI called ahead to see if they had outlets available by tables for my portable oxygen concentrator. Cathy answered the phone and was SO nice and said yes. Their competitor across the street didn't and weren't nice about it. I'm so glad it worked out for us to visit Scramblers. Our server Ashley was very kind, professional and accommodating without being overbearing.
Our coffee was hot, not bitter and full bodied. The different flavor creamers table side were also a nice touch. I ordered the Classic with pork links and praline pancakes. My eggs were prepared just how I requested, hashbrowns were perfectly cooked and my pancakes were fluffy and delicious!
My sister is more health conscious and ordered the mini Classic with egg whites fresh fruit and toast. She said her meal was perfectly made and she would definitely come back as well!
We noticed that Ashley was taking the tops off of the hot sauce bottles (on the condiment caddies) and soaking them in hot water. She also thoroughly cleaned and sanitized recently vacated booths and tables. It was such a nice touch! The entire restaurant was impressively clean and organized.
I forgot to take photos as we were in the moment and enjoyed ourselves without phones.
The portions are HUGE and reasonably priced. I took home over half my food.
We look forward to coming back soon! Thank you Scramblers for an...
